I'd say this is probably the best review to come out of this channel. A non-biased opinion and a fair score despite a lack of personal enjoyment. Though I am curious about a few things. Namely how you misconstrued the game to play out like Mega Man when so much info was released on it. Was it simply a lack of looking into it before release?

In the end, it goes to show how tastes change between people. I'm someone who's never been into boss rushes either, but Cuphead's style and difficulty keep me coming back (and trust me, after world 1 it starts ramping up.) I'd say try it again if a sale comes around.

This was an incredibly fair review. "Wasn't what I was expecting, I don't care for the genre that much myself, still an amazing game even with me not liking the genre". As a 1 man review team, this is how you should do things. The big review sites that have tons of people working for them have no excuse why people that actively don't like genres still review games for said genre, and then don't even bother to mention that part in the review itself.

Love the new ratings. I'm glad you brought up Alien Soldier. I've recently discovered how much fun Treasure's games were and Alien Soldier has been an addiction of mine. It's my second favorite Treasure game next to Gunstar Heroes and I honestly wish there were more games like Alien Soldier where the focus is on the boss battles. Speaking of which, Alien Soldier has that very world record that the Cuphead devs wants to surpass. And I hope they do get that record. I really want to play this game so bad.

While i love this game already, i do agree with you that there aren't that many platforming levels, which is pretty much my only gripe with this game, and a somewhat big one. I may disagree with you sometimes (though very rarely), it's your honesty, fairness and your reasonable responses to your critics that make you my favourite video game reviewer.

If it makes you feel better, I'm waiting for a sale too. Tho, if you want to know where I'm coming from: Not counting gifts, I haven't paid full price for a game since Batman: Arkham City. And yes, I recognized Alien Soldier - one of my favorite Genesis games.

The game’a art style alone made me interested though I’ve yet to play the game. Observing what I’ve seen and heard though the focal points of divides opinions is it’s difficultly. Overall it’s great to hear from you again and I believe you critiques are fair.

This was definitely a fair review. You acknowledge that it was a good game, but also that it wasn't your preferred genre and any criticisms toward it were mostly your own opinion. That's honestly what we need to hear from people giving it average to mediocre reception other than (from what I'm reading) suggesting games should be developed to cater to the interests of non-gamers or millennials. That abysmal tutorial video was purely the fault of the journalist, not the developer, and suggesting otherwise is why I tend to dislike Game journalism from major publication groups (Game Informer, IGN) rather than the YouTube crowd (SomecallmeJohnny, you).

When you take away the pretty graphics you have a rather average shooter game. Props to the animators for making such a work of art though. It really makes the game outstanding.

I enjoy Cuphead and ended up getting it for $17. However like some others, i do wish there were more run & gun levels as that was something i was expecting more so than just boss fights.

Oh trust me, the first Isle is a cakewalk compared to what comes after that. I personally was disappointed by this game and regret that i didn't return it before the 2 hour mark. I was expecting something challenging but fun, what i got was challenging, but no fun. I found the run 'n gun levels to be annoying and the bosses, especially after the first isle to be nothing but a tedious chore to get through. It's such a shame too, since the game has a beautiful art style, that is something i've never seen before in games. I guess you could say this is the type of game that just didn't click with me either.
