John Cooke (Joplin's road manager) went to Joplin's motel room after producer Paul Rothchild phoned and said Joplin had not arrived for her recording session that day. Cooke said that upon entering Janis's motel room, "I got a strong feeling that nobody was there. Then I came round the corner and saw Janis lying on the floor next to a bed. But that strong feeling that nobody was there, it was absolutely right."

Janis will always be the most authentic, heartfelt female vocalist ever! You put words and soul into what you sang
and helped me to understand that being true to one's self is the only way to live..

Janis’ pain could be heard in her singing. Some of her songs make me cry instantly. 🌹

What a heartbreak. Janis was SO special. I think it good the management of the hotel maintains it somewhat of a memorial to her.

What bothers me most isn't that she passed from an overdose, or that she passed at all, but it's the fact that she passed all alone. All she wanted was to entertain people and then go home to someone waiting for her...knowing that she died all alone is what gets to me the most, knowing all she wanted was not to be alone when she wasn't performing. She deserved to have someone who would love her waiting at home for her. She deserved that happiness and completeness.

I find it sad, cool, and everything emotion life brings us. She lived the way she wanted too. Yes, sad how she died. But beautiful how she lived. She was real.

I don't know if I would call the room she OD'd and died in at the too young age of 27 "cool", more like really sad and tragic.
