M57 Turbo install on a 2012 BMW X5 35d

This is a video of me installing turbos on my 2012 BMW X5 35d. The vehicle was consuming oil and smoking on idle. As a result, the HP (small) turbo was leaking oil out the exhaust. I removed the turbos, sent them out to get rebuilt and this is a video of me installing them back on.

Thank you for the video! I just replaced both turbos on my e70 x5 35d, and this really helped me prep for the job. I wish I replaced the turbos when I had the engine out a year ago, would have been much easier lol. Thank you again for taking the time to film and upload the video to help your fellow enthusiasts! Much appreciated 👏

Nice job as always. I second those R2S o-rings are a pita if you replace with new. Thumbs up.

How many miles were on the blown turbo?

Also for anyone curious, my turbo failed at approximately 90K miles and the dealer sold me the car with a new DPF and didn't fix the actual problem, the turbo pushing oil ruined the catalyst in the DPF, I hope 2qrts of oil didn't cook the new DPF, throwing DPF codes now.

Hi. Awesome video. I have a 2011 x5 35d e70. Is the wastegate valve normally in open position with the engine off? Meaning the actuator needs vacuum to close the flapper?

Hi Brad.. You alright... I've just watched your video.. It was nice to see how you assembled it.. Do u have a video of how you took the turbo out... I'm thinking of replacing my turbos but I don't know how to take it out... Look forward to hearing from you...

Hi Brad, thank for your video, I changed both turbos (LP turbo has a broken rotor) and after installing repaired turbos there is a whistle sound when I accelerate about 2000-2500RPM, I really don't know whats wrong with it, sound like this is completely new, I have never hearded it before... Of course, sealing I putted new, Is it necessary to set up waste gate on LP turbo? (in video 29min. you only installing it without setting up. Thanks,

The two 12 point bolts that hold the low pressure turbo. What size are they or does it require a special socket from bmw?

Great video..Love the details and not just showing the results. Thanks. Can you tell me the best way to replace the oil line from the oil distribution block that goes down to bottom of engine. It's the one that has an attachment on the large turbocharger. Any ideas would help. Thanks in advance! Keep up the great videos.

How bad was it smoking? Mine is gone on start up but gets progressively worse as it warms up. I just did VCG on mine and it’s still consuming and smoking like my ex wife haha. Think it’s the seals but trying to be sure. I wiggled the bottom turbo shaft when I had the car apart and it felt solid couldn’t feel any play
