What Happens During a Mammogram?

Regular screening mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer in its early, more treatable stage. Having regular mammograms makes it easier to compare your images and can reveal changes that are too small for you or your doctor to feel.

Mayfair Diagnostics recommends screening mammography every year from age 40 to 49. Between ages 50-75 regular mammograms are recommended every two years if there are no risks factors that would necessitate a shorter interval, such as a family history of breast cancer or extremely dense breasts. After age 75, screening frequency will depend on a number of factors, including your medical history.

However, many women dread having these exams and delay booking an appointment. We have created a video to show what happens during a mammogram to help reduce anxiety.

Today, I got a mammogram for the first time and it did not hurt at all. I was reading comments and some say it hurts. I took step of faith and it did not hurt at all. People just like putting fear into others. Thank God for new technology.

My mammogram doesn’t hurt, but I know it varies by person. Please do it annually. It caught my breast cancer at stage 2 and was successfully treated with chemo and radiation. Thank god. It was not a lump my doctor or I could feel.

I'm old enough to remember a time when breasts where squeezed between plates of glass in a way that was very uncomfortable and the exam took a lot more time than it does now. My exam yesterday was a bit awkward but there was no pain at all.

3:56 The video did a great job of explaining procedure. I would like to see one with patient having 40DD, my size or larger because it is not that simple or painless.

I have been receiving mammograms over 10 years and never been given a remote to control compression. The technicians have always been nice, however, it was always uncomfortable. Fortunately, its annual and may save your life.

The last one I had I saw stars and actually thought I was going to pass out. It was painful! Then every time I am then put through a sonogram. Even the thought of another momo makes me break out in sweat and terror. Plus X-rays are a carcinogen. So if one starts at 40 by the time they are 80 they have had 40 times X-rays through that tender area.

My first one under breast check Ireland was very uncomfortable.I was about to yell stop as I thought my breast was about to burst due to the compression when the operator did released the pressure. This happened with both breasts. Subsequent mammograms were less uncomfortable . Maybe on my first they were trying to get I’d base as to tissue density etc. .
