I have had memory bins for years. Every so often I go through the bins and continue to sort things out and get rid of items that, over time, aren't as important as I once thought they were. My daughters are given a lot of the items.

It's really hard after downsizing. Especially because my Husband, Son, and dog all passed away in the last four years!!! I'm so overwhelmed so much stuff that we had after 30 years

I recently did a big purge of my home, and chose to take pictures of sentimental items before donating. There was just too many, they had already been in totes for many years. It helped me to let go of the items just by knowing I could refer back to the photos.

This is a very good idea. I’ve started something similar, thinking if I can get the most important items all together in one place it will make it easier for the stuff that’s iffy to float to the surface and easier to decide. But like so many it takes time and thought to sort and I’m only about half done. But that’s better than nothing.

Just saw your Clutter Bug organizing styles represented on the series High Potential S1E12 and wanted to let you know in case you didn’t and congratulate you for inventing a style that’s going mainstream into pop culture 🎉

I’m making memory bins for my husband and I. I’m hoping that can reduce the amount he wants to keep.

Hi Cas, I have some sentimental items that weren’t even mine originally but belonged to relatives who passed away. They were sentimental to people who were dear to me. I didn’t even know about these items until I had to clear out their homes. Welp!

I love this idea!!! I have so many sentimental items a few things from my grandma. I lost both my grandmas around age 9 and 10. They passed 11 months apart from each other. I have birthday cards that I can never let go of from my aunt's growing up because one passed from Alzheimer's and dementia and the other is in a home suffering from it as well. It's hard to see someone suffering from that and not knowing who you are 😭. So the idea of making a box with all sentimental ideas is an amazing idea. I'm going to keep this in mind when I declutter my room and fully go through things. I have been working in the kids room with them it's a work in progress lol but we'll get there.

I’m working on downsizing sentimental items. Scanning some items like my elementary school grade reports - but then do I shred them or keep them?🤷🏼‍♀️

If you are like my MIL, she has over 30 totes of "memories" and continues to collect "special" things. I've seen things such as papers used to plan an event, napkins from special places, scores for a game with date on it (she doesnt even put on the paper what game was played so you know if the low or high score was the winner) 😂 To my knowledge, these totes remain undisturbed and just take up space in her home. She does other things and doesn't think about looking in her memory bins.

What would you do with a box of letters? Handwritten collection from before text communication started. I am thinking of going through them (feeling overwhelmed), but what would be the “keep” requirements? I am back and forth on just letting it all go - haven’t read any of them in over 20 years - just turned 60- wondering if it even makes sense- but what if ? So many conflicting feelings about this one.
Same question about all those photos in a box that never made it into an album- of and what about all those? Gheese, anxiety of doing it wrong is giving me a knot in my stomach.

Is there a good way to prevent the memory bin from smelling bad after a while? I had a bin with clean scarves from last winter and when I opened it for this year it stank so bad! I'd hate to do that with sentimental items

Yep i did this for my kids in there school years. When they become adults, they went through it and threw it all out. And they collect and clutter 😆 oh well 🤷

Thankfully I am not a sentimental person. I don't even have pictures of my childhood etc.
