Joyce Vance, former U.S. attorney, talks with Alex Wagner about how Donald Trump's argument in a court hearing over whether a special master should be appointed to review the material recovered from Mar-a-Lago by the FBI is really about discrediting the DOJ in the public eye than it is about making a legal argument.

I use to work in a technical library for the Army. Lemme tell ya’, the classified stuff was in a safe in a private reading room and I had to sit in the room with the person reading them until they were done and then I’d put it back in the safe.
That was NOT the way we treated our regular books.

If only he'd hidden them in his Healthcare plan and tax returns folder, nobody would have found them.

This judge needs to work out where her loyalty lays: with US legal system or with Trump. If it’s Trump then maybe she needs to be disbarred.

Yes Joyce, absolutely…..just wants to slow it down, please treat him like a everyday Joe, he lost his privileges the moment he backed Russia instead of America!

him wanting info from the special master is so he can find out who squealed. I hope the judge isn't as dumb as his lawyers are. DOJ must appeal if she grants this. but that's more delay too

“The Presidential Records Act is clear, ” Rove said on Fox News. “A president does not have the right to leave the White House and pick and choose what documents he wants to take with him, ” he continued. “He can ask for copies, but those are the property of the American people, and since 1978 no president has left with any sort of picking and choosing their own documents.” ~ Karl Rove on Fox 8/26/2022

Guess we need to remind those lawyers this is a bit more serious than getting your library card suspended because you didn't return some books.

How can a judge possibly claim to be impartial when the defendant literally gave her her job?

I don't care what Trump wants or thinks. I demand that he is held to the same standard as all of the rest of us would be. I am not asking that you neglect to give him due process. NO! I am demanding that you give him due process in an impartial way. Just like anyone else.

The fact that even a nanosecond of consideration is being afforded to this proposterous request, is a glaring sign that this judge is biased and politically motivated. She should have dismissed it immediately, without any hesitation whatsoever.

And just like an "overdue library book", there IS a penality to be paid for tardiness and negligence!

The judge might eventually need to be investigated as well. Imagine how comfortable they feel with the judge to even attempt the level of stupid they bring in the court.

"We need to lower the temperature" - since when is that a legal argument ? The arrogance and vacuousness of Trump's application is just typical of that horrible man. The judge who is hearing the application is a disgrace and is making herself appear biased. That she declared herself minded to allow Trump's application before the DoJ had submitted a response, to me makes her deeply flawed and suspect.

The thing is this. Any " Special Master " appointed would have to have the highest security clearance in order to look at these documents. He/she would not be able to disclose any contents of these documents due to their classification. Some of these documents are so highly classified that even if they were to be made available to a judge, they would be so heavily redacted that they would be just black sheets of paper. And yet, despite all this Trump, at one point, claimed he had the documents in order to include them in a book. So he thought it was OK to divulge Top Secret intel in a book? And yet people are willing to vote for him. It just don't figure.
