I’m amazed at how close your target audience description is to me 😂

I am about the opposite from your target audience (female, early 20s, no husband, no kids, definitely no beard), but I love listening to your ambient music. It's great for studying and for winding down in the evening. I'm about to enter medical school, and I will definitely need your music to get me through. Thank you!

Start a fingerstyle ambient bluegrass channel - change the world!

As a married, bearded, 32 year old guy with academic background and two chilren I feel debunked :D

The exception is I play the bass and managed to play in bands even when the kids were younger (thanks to my wife).

While I enjoy your music I'm honestly much more into your additional content, like this video. It is really helpful, thanks again. Please keep going :)

Im exactly the target audience except for the name and its freaking me out lol.

But seriously Ive been playing for 25 years but recently have been playing professionally for my church. And of course church you need a lot of ambient guitar. This channel has helped me a lot with that!

Watching you talk about this stuff brings me back in 2012-2013 to the Music Passage!

Great advice. I also think posting some lessons on Youtube with links to tabs on a website is a great way to attract other guitar nerds to your music

Was not expecting Stars of the Lid to be mentioned. Love that band.

I watched quite a few videos on this topic. This one has been the most insightful. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah! Good advices! it is very common that the musician don't pay attention to these concepts.

Back in September of '18 I joined Drooble. It is a music sharing web site that has some interesting features. And I have posted three or four styles of my music ranging from rock, folk, blues and ambient. And I totally agree with you when you said be targeted, having too many types of songs just confuses the potential fans. I exclusively post ambient since that is where I always end up and around 80% of my 32 songs are ambient. the rest of what you have said I have not even begun to consider. But I will. I am not your typical fan as I am 59 years old, have been playing guitar for 50+ years. And I so appreciate the things you share. The stuff I understand I try to implement and the things that escape me I keep in the back of my mind until I can get my head around it.

Bill, at 65, after a lifetime of prog rock, hard rock and jazz-fusion, my ears can no longer handle the bombast. You've been my sole instructor and guide to the world of ambient playing, prompting the acquisition of an ebow, and putting to better use the multiple delays I already owned. I thank you for that. This current series seems very good advice for anyone wanting to put their music forward in a post-Napster world. But one question... do you perform ambient music in live venues? Playing live remains key to promoting one's self in most all other genres, but I've yet to personally see anyone performing ambient music in a live setting, save for seeing Robert Fripp opening for G3 in the 90's. A friend joking suggested "2019 Tour of the Opium Dens". Club owners seem to believe something a bit more lively better encourages alcohol consumption. To be serious, is there a venue for live ambient performance? Cheers, John

This video deserves more views! even though I can't exactly relate, this can apply to many other things than just music online like your hobbies, political, opinions, religious beliefs, friends, dating, and especially what you want to do for your FUTURE CAREER.

This advice is so valuable! It can be adapted to any of the creative crafts, and not just music. Thank you!

This series has been incredibly helpful, and your audience seems incredibly similar to what mine should be. Thanks so much for making these.

You can have several brands. You can have one artist name for one type of music and another for another. That is a common branding strategy everywhere, including in the tech business. Apple calls their phones iPhones, not Apple phones. Technics and Panasonic are built by the same company, just for different focus groups.

You have your target audience super located. I am your target audience! and here I am. I will follow your advise, thanks Mr. White!

Thanks for this Bill, but one thing that seems to happen on forums and groups is just a handful of likeminded musicians just sharing their work and listening to each other - and even in those situations things can get cliquish. I wonder about finding a niche audience of not necessarily other musicians?
