Early game tips after 200+ hours of play (my style differs from our dear Raptor's):
1. Settle close to water. In the first couple eras you don't have access to a well so people have to drink water at the river. In the first era they individually go to water then after pottery someone will collect it and bring to camp (usually kids). This wastes your people's time and energy leaves defenseless kiddos vulnerable to the likes of wolves, bears, hyenas, and lions. You can move away a bit when you have wells, but even then your livestock will go to the river in the summer so make sure they can quickly get inside if raiders come.
2. Build several skin dryers and a crafter right off the bat. You need them to do just about anything and if someone pops out a kiddo they need clothes to not freeze.
3. Wait to build the storage tent until your tents are built. Your tents have storage slots. "No slots available" means it can't take anymore item types. Say something has three slots and can stack five high. It can have one dried meat, one outfit, and one berry and say there are no slots available. It can still take 4 more of each of those items. When you start building multiple storage tents filter what can be stored in each to prevent small stacks scattered everywhere. The AI will just dump stuff wherever convenient, not where it is smart. Just keep weapons and food easy to get to. Once you have grainries disallow food in storage buildings to free up room.
4. Drop tasks and your preferred limits for every task flag right away. Set limits for sticks, logs and rocks to infinite. You will need these in huge amounts later and trees and rocks are typically in the way. Place one rock flag at a time to clear rock piles that will be in your way as you develop. When one exhausts find another you want out of your way. If you end up needing extra help to harvest or on a large labor project like Palisades then drop the limit below your current storage count. This will temporarily halt collection. Just remember to switch back to infinite later.
4. Fishing is your friend but crank your limit way up and use the c key (for PC) to cover as much of the river as possible to slow over fishing. If you see you fish storage dropping then move to another river segment to let that area recover. Clicking on a river segment shows if it is overfished.

With the resource limits you don't need to keep deleting the gathering spots, adjust the number of people but leave the spot and your people will self manage their work. Also non-agressive animals will avoid your camp so you shouldn't put your hunting spot directly on top. You should drop a hunting spot next to the stream so you get animals heading to the water.

I love this game, it is so cool! I would rather actually live life like this, then I found this game and it only entices me more wanting to live this way! And not be suppressed by today's society and every thing that's wrong with it!

A few tips and all:
to change speed just hit the number keys 1-4
hit the tab button for primal vision
When using the crafter just right click on what you want crafted and they'll automatically do it once they have the resources for it
if you want to change how much they make of tools or outfits you can change the limits on what they craft so can have more of a certain item if you want instead of manually clicking on what you want made all the time.
