Dang squirrels! *Someone* used bird seed with black sunflower seeds and so between the squirrels and chipmunks I find little clusters of germinated seeds, in the ground, between bricks, everywhere! Funny considering it was from a package labeled "NO WASTE" bird seed. Which I thought that meant it was sterilized and not able to germinate. But that's not true with the black sunflower seed.

Just wait until you start establishing your new lawn with all the trees and squirrels! I think with a larger lawn you stop worry about the little holes they dig because there's not much you can do about it and the KBG will fill in eventually anyway. As far as mowing the PRG...I think you can wait longer. I'm at almost 4.5 weeks without mowing it and it's still standing tall and straight! (Grand Slam PRG)

I properly seeded in bare spots and in 3 days I had 1/2" baby grass coming through. In 2 weeks it's all filled in to mow.

That's super quick with the kentucky bluegrass. I've had some colder nights in the low 40's recently which doesn't help at all but tomorrow is day 6 and I'm not expecting to see anything. I threw 20% fescue into the 80% bluegrass. I've found it helps get some structure and since I cut at 3/4", the fescue ends up getting replaced by the KBGs lateral growth.

Had the same issues with my backyard reno and squirrels. Also have a crazy cat lady beside me and I woke up today to the biggest cat turd directly in the middle of the new grass. Was pretty happy about that.

I live in SW Indiana not to far from you and I don't know what I'm doing wrong with my yard. I seeded, watered, and fert'd it but yet it grew a little and then all died out. I'm about to give up on this years attempt.

I did blue grass this year! Midnight from seed ranch and it worked great!

Awesome results so far! Boy ryegrass germinates quickly. I can’t wait until everything thickens up and especially until the Kentucky Bluegrass comes in!

What’s are watering schedule looking like now ? Are you still “keeping the seed moist” step? Or the deep and infrequent step?

Do have advice on getting rid of gophers? is there something I can put on lawn that will make them stop eating grass? I put seed down all the time as soon as it's a couple of inches high I don't have to mow. the gophers take care of everything but the weeds

Hi,

When you laid your seed did you use straw or peat moss to cover the seeds? Also, what’s your water routine? I seeded my grass about two weeks ago but it’s not as tall as yours?

@The Lawn Whisperer do you remember how long it took fir the regular GCI cool season fescue to show itself?

Also how many times did you water each day? I know the length of time can vary depending on PSI and even the sprinklers each person has. Just curious how many times you watered.

I'm still on schedule with ur vids I used GCI tall fescue partly because of what u had in your main front yard. It sprouted in 5 days I was amazed. It even could have sprouted sooner because I put tenacity down a few days after seeding (mistake) and now I have stripes of bleached new grass and I'm worried. I prolly treated sprouts unaware they were starting. But they sprang up quickly and evenly and no squirrels lol. Thanks!

I’m obsessed with your videos! My husband laughs at me almost daily because I’m starting to geek out on all things grass related 🤣

Was that a salamander (crawling in the dirt) near the beginning when you were talking about the grass being 4 inches?!! 🦎
