The people of Pompeii weren't turned into molten rock statues by lava flows, they were covered in ash which left hollow outlines of their bodies.

I do remember that erruption on Island. I live in Norway, and the airspace over my house was silent for weeeeks. It was so cool and quiet 🙂

Taal? If you were going to cover a volcano near Manilla, why didn't you do Mt Pinatubo? Its eruption near the main US air base was legendary, and a lot more destructive.

Mt. Pinatubo after being dormant for 611 years was one of the more destructive volcanic eruption in 1991… it was massive and even visible from space. It actually pushed Americans to give-up the Subic and Clark airbases because it buried everything on its path in lahar.

"Don't go swimming when you see lava falling into the ocean."

Someone, somewhere, watching this video just said, "Challenge accepted."

Mount Pinatubo was the one of the worst Volcanic Eruption in Philippine History. It claimed a handful of people and to make matters worse a typhoon was heading in the Philippines at that time making it even harder for us Filipinos. 2 Major Natural Disasters in one go 😩

Actually, Pliny the Younger, wasn't "there" (Pompeii). He was in Naples, on the other side of the bay. His uncle, Pliny the Elder did die in the vicinity of Pompeii. Pliny had already rescued one boatload of people. When he went back to get more, he disappeared among the smoke and ash. On a side note, Pliny the Younger's description of a pyroclastic cloud was taken as the object of a child's (he was 13) imagination until Mount St. Helens emitted a pyroclastic cloud in 1980.

Other people have pointed out that Vesuvius’s 79 Ad eruption is a VEI-5 not 4, which means it actually dwarfed the ones you said it was equal to. Also it’s called a Plinian Eruption after Pliny the Younger, not a Vesuvian eruption, and it’s not uncommon for Kilauea to be erupting in two places at once, in fact it was doing that the whole time during its 1983 eruption because of its lava lake at the summit, since even having a lava lake present counts as an eruption.

Good job on pronouncing Eyjafjallajökull though, most people don’t get that right.

Volcanoes that erupt once is a while are scary, what scares me are the ones that been silent for too long and one day things gonna go off

i was 5 years old when eyjafjallajökull erupted. i remember seeing it on the news all the time and there were huge floods caused by the melting of the glacier on top of the volcano.

Pyroclastic Flows reach about 200 km/h (124.274 mph)! [Edit] You should have the Spanish island eruption, in La Palma!

Just wondering if an eruptions, other than Mt. Saint Helens, has ever been captured on film as it actually starts erupting.
