Should we stop? Should we hit the buffers on this stuff?

There are people, experts who definitely feel that way.

I'm not as apocalyptic about it.

We're not going to build the one machine that controls everything.

But right now, if you had told someone 20 years ago,

I drive a car that can steer itself and tell me where grandma's house is to avoid traffic,

in real time.

They would say, that's AI!

In the days of the Jetsons, they imagine robots as humanoid objects walking around doing tasks.

They weren't thinking that the car was the robot, that the telescope was the robot.

That your coffee machine is the robot.

They weren't thinking that.

They had a robot operate the coffee machine.

All right?

The robot drove your car.

So if we infuse A.I. in all the areas of our lives, that serve our needs,

then I don't see A.I. becoming centralized in a way that then takes over.

The one thing I don’t like about the move in technology is that things that are not being built to last, and it’s getting harder and harder to repair.

But it is becoming more centralized… from the coffeemaker to the door bell to your alarm system it’s all “hey google”. Not to mention all your life is now in your phone….not centralized my ass.

Very good point. But it also means that if we end up with an autonomous fleet of war vehicles controlled by a central A.i, it won’t matter that they’re not humanoid in shape.

But then that gives corporations more potential control over so many more aspects of our lives. The only thing more dangerous than malfunctioning AI is corporate control over the common man

A coffee machine is not a robot. It is a machine with a computer inside of it and a code like any other piece of digital technology. The point of a robot is for it to complete tasks without assistance, which a coffee maker cannot do.
