Ubuntu MATE really ought to be the flagship Ubuntu distribution, and relegate GNOME 3 (or 40, whatever they call it now) to an official flavor. Ubuntu began with GNOME 2 as its standard, and they should just return to the modern incarnation.

I use Debian mate and love it. It makes sense for me and it's fast. I only have 4GBof RAM so a light distro with a pretty light DE works for me. I also have Ubuntu budgie in another partition but given the age and ram, Debian mate works well!😀

I never thought MATE looked bad. Cairo Dock is nice too.

Ubuntu is my 2nd favorite Ubuntu flavor.
Although I prefer Kubuntu. It's a bit lighter on the ram usage than MATE.
All the different settings can be a bit overwhelming for new users though. But at the same time, they make it a lot easier to customize and download new themes, applets and so on.

I use Debian with the Mate desktop. I do not care for the Brisk menu so I use the advanced menu or my favorite the classic menu bar. The weather app is the best one I have found more accurate than in XFCE. Ubuntu Mate is very well put together and they have a good team. Linux Mint Mate is also very good either way you can not go wrong using the Mate desktop.

I understand that Ubuntu MATE is the best Ubuntu but you need to explain that it is best to you because it works for you but it is not for everyone and not everyone will agree with you because best is reverent but you are entitle to your option of course :)

I don't know about you Carmine but it seems to me that Firefox has been slow. I tried Brave and holy cow. It is noticeably faster.
