This video is meant to be satirical. However, there were clearly a surprisingly large number of people who believed a false claim spread on social media about Yellowstone. I wanted to set the record straight. As for the thumbnail, I am parodying clickbait content by adding red arrows and circles that point at nothing.

I never though I would hear GeologyHub with a major portion of sarcasm

Thanks for this video. As a former National Park Ranger at Yellowstone I actually talked with their head geologist, Hank Hessler, about this very thing. It was right after the Discovery Channel made their stupid supervolcano documentary that scared tons of people into asking questions at our visitor centers. He simply said that if Yellowstone were to erupt again it would most likely not be a catastrophic supereruption but rather the flowing of lava at Norris Geyser Basin as Norris acts kind of like a pressure relief valve on a water heater tank. If too much pressure built in the system it could release at Norris due to its location over the magma chamber and we would possibly see the flowing of lava from that area.

This is why I like Geologyhub even more 🙂

The only things that are news worthy that come out of Yellowstone is when some curious tourist gets mauled by a bear or tossed by the bison. Nothing new to report

That fact that your content is to the point and non-click baity makes this video really cut deep, LOL!

hearing you say "the _big_ one" with such heavy sarcasm definitely made my night

This is my favorite video ever. I hate the Yellowstone Panic that happens every now and then. Here in Washington State, it's usually volleys between "The Big One (earthquake) / Mt Tahoma is going to blow ANY DAY NOW!!" when they aren't pushing Yellowstone misinformation.

I hate to admit but one of my guilty pleasures is the movie “2012” by Roland Emmerich. It included the eruption of Yellowstone. But the funniest part was a classic Hollywood car chase, between a limousine and an earthquake (and later an aircraft vs. the earthquake). I can’t watch that without laughing! But very well done and highly recommended.

Even the water geysers now take longer time to erupt than it did just decades ago and yet people keep saying it is about to erupt when the magma underneath is clearly cooling down.

I was gonna say, that looked like Lassen, just walked bumpass hell recently

I really like your humor. It’s really cool

Nothing more frustrating than the "just asking questions/Yellowstone is about to blow" cult. Sarcasm warranted.

Loving the sass! I get peeved at those geologically and seismically themed channels that bill every minor tremor in the US west as “IS THIS A SIGN OF THE CASCADIA / SAN ANDREAS MEGAQUAKE?!?!1!” No matter how much you tell people earthquakes can’t be predicted, they still flock to these videos. And then you get told off for trying to reason with them because it apparently means “you’re against earthquake preparedness.”

Well... it all depends on what the definition of "about to" is... In geologic terms, yes, it's "about to" erupt.

This took away some anxiety thank you.

So, which "super" volcano is the most likely to have a significant event, and compared to Tonga. What should we expect

Yeah...but when is Chocolate Mountain going to erupt again?

Just curious about your thoughts on all of the fracking going on around Yellowstone and the possible effects it may have on Yellowstone's stability .
