Meningitis is an infection and inflammation of the fluid and membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord These membranes are called meninges. Meningitis is caused due to bacterial or viral infection
Meningitis usually happens when an infection – often a virus or bacteria – travels to the meninges. It can be fatal and requires immediate medical care
Meningitis is more common in infants and young children than in adults.
The most common symptoms are fever, headache, and neck stiffness.Other symptoms include confusion ,nausea, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate light or loud noises

A cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis can definitively diagnose meningitis. However, a doctor may recommend additional tests to rule out other causes.
