►In this Mercedes-Benz W211 Transmission Guide, Kyle Bascombe, our Mercedes-Benz Catalog Manager, educates us about the transmissions found in the W211 chassis. There are two main transmissions covered in this video—the 722.6 5G-TRONIC NAG1 and the 722.9 7G-TRONIC NAG2. Kyle goes over key maintenance items, common failure points, and how to service these transmissions.

Kyle answers some of the most common questions such as:
• When should I service my transmission?
• I just serviced my Mercedes-Benz transmissions and how come it no longer moves?
• Which dipstick tube cover is for transmission fluid and which is for oil?
• Why is my car going into limp mode?
• Why is my car having trouble shifting?
• How do I have my new conductor plate coded to my vehicle?

Good review Kyle. I recently had transmission problems with the 722.9 in my '07 C230. It would not shift correctly and threw the speed sensor codes. I removed the valve body, then separated the conductor plate which I sent off for repair. Got new gasket and hardware from FCP and used AMSOIL fluid. I spent about $500 total on this repair and the transmission has been flawless since. This is a little more involved than just a filter and fluid service but can be DIY'd if you study the available videos and take your time. I gathered all the parts and fluid before starting, so in all the car was down about a week to allow for transit and repair of the conductor plate.

Thanks for the video! I have a 722.118 that has been sitting for years. It has no leaks and the pressure is according to the manuals. The problem is that at times the pressure drops to zero and the exchange doesn't work. I changed the oil and filter, but the problem persists. It only works again when I accelerate above 3000rpm. Any suggestion?

I’ve 08 E350 4Matic and 166000Km, the problem is come true shifting! Sometimes, gear stuck 2nd or 3rd OR doesn’t shifts. The code reader says P0730-32. But however, sometimes there is Zero issue from transmission, runs smooth gears shifting enormous and runs like thunder. And I’m pretty, previous owner didn’t change transmission fluid nor flushed(and previous owner was the first owner until I bought) So, what would be your opinion? Thanking in advance for your reply..

I sent the conductor plate to circuit board medics and they replaced the sensor for around 300$ plus 400$ for mechanic who took it down including fluid, saved me over 1k if had to go at the dealer

I own a 2003 Mercedes SL55 AMG and I’m hoping you can help. The other day the engine light came on, the dealership replaced the Transmission Control Module. Prior to this repair while in S mode I could tap the shift lever right or left and it down shift and up shift, now nothing happens. In Manual it shifts fine and down shifts automatically. The tranny works fine otherwise, moves smoothly through gears. How can I restore this function?

You see I've go a p0705 code on my obd saying "Transmission Range Sensor A Circuit PRNDL Input) now is that the same as a (speed sensor) code reading ?
