My dad was a Marine during WWII. I came along later in his life. When I turned 18 he told me he’d plant me in the backyard before he would allow me to enlist. (he had zero to worry about I had no interest in insisting) He was damn serious about it. He had a temper and wasn’t to be messed with. I said “yes sir” and he calmed down.
