Hangnails going too far were literally my worst nightmare when i was a kid.

I soak a hangnail in warm soapy water for about 10-20 minutes, usually while taking a bath. The hang nail then softens to the point where removal is easily painless. The water that has soaked into my skin making it wrinkled heal the wound fast overnight.
