Born and raised in NJ. Been in LA for last 12 years … In a nutshell, North Jersey is the suburbs of NYC, South Jersey is the suburbs of Philly.

Lifelong NJ Resident here. This is actually very accurate list. I live in North East NJ, (Bergen County). As soon as I retire, my wife, kids, and are going to either Florida, Texas, or South Dakota. I have 3 years to go. For me the reasons I’m fleeing is the taxes, and the fact that the politicians, both parties, couldn’t care about the residents.

From the people I have worked with who live in NJ the biggest complaint has been property taxes. Housing cost and rent cost has always been right up there as well.

Lived in Jersey for almost 40 years....moved down south in 2018....one of the best decisions I ever made.

Guessing: High property taxes, housing costs, overcrowded, rental costs, income taxes, weather, crime in some parts, food prices, traffic, air pollution in some parts.

As a NJ resident for the past 35 years, I can tell you that NJ is NOT the wonderful state that I grew up in and loved so much. The property taxes get higher and higher every year, idiotic gun control laws, more New Yorkers moving here and the political corruption will NEVER end. Can’t wait wait to leave in the next 2-3 years. I am actually growing to hate this state more and more each day.

Born and raised in NJ. Many have told me that I should move. How happy they are once they left. Top two states that they moved to North Carolina and Florida

I just moved to texas from New Jersey. Couldn’t afford to live there as a single young man. Taxes, cost of living, and work wages were not suitable

My dad was a truck driver for 24 years and he hated driving through New Jersey. Not only were the roads FILLED with potholes everywhere, but they have a crazy law that 18 wheelers can't use two lane highways unless they are making a delivery. Can't pump your own gas and there are jughandle turns everywhere.

I always wanted to leave NJ. My mom and kids are what kept me here. Now a grandmother, I can't imagine being in a state without my grandkids

Grew up in Hackensack, NJ and left when I was in my late 20s. Only thing I miss is the great food.

Born and raised at the Jersey Shore... everything you mentioned + incredibly high car insurance... moved from NJ to South Central PA in 2002 and my parents followed a few years later... plenty to do and soooo much cheaper here. The beaches in NJ are amazing... I miss Island Beach State Park... but I've found the beaches in NC and FL are spectacular too. Never going back to the "Garden State".

In 1978 I lived in NJ and was offered a job with career potential on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I took it and have never regretted my decision.

I just moved south from NJ, and I find your list to be spot on! I retired and left NJ because it was too expensive to live there and I didn't want to deal with another NJ winter!

Lived in Jersey all my life. It never occurred to me that a place like Iowa, Idaho, or Utah could have milder weather. And, tornados are extremely rare, and very minor in Jersey. Everything else I agree with.

Born & raised in NJ, South Jersey is definitely different from north. Our weather is Great! Hardly no snow, temps are averaging 45-50, love hiking in the pine lands all winter. shore area is clean, & our air quality is Good. Expensive Yes! Our wages are higher. Love all the outdoor activities 👍🏻

I spent 38 of my 51 years in New Jersey, I spent the other 13 years of my life in Florida. If you do not have money, New Jersey is an extremely difficult place to live. I make $77, 000 a year and it seems like I’m making minimum wage because everything is so expensive in this state. When I lived in Florida I rented a humongous town house with two bedrooms and two bathrooms for $750 a month. The same type of house in New Jersey would cost about $2000 a month. I think that should pretty much sum it up. I also have started and run three businesses over the last 13 years and I can tell you doing business in New Jersey is nearly impossible. I had to dissolve a business I started in New Jersey within months because of the ridiculous regulations. I wound up reincorporating in Nevada and Delaware to avoid the bureaucratic nonsense. It seems like on top of the high regulations and the high taxes bureaucrats just go through the books see there is no regulation for whatever and just create one for no reason. When I lived in the south people were always complaining,
When a bureaucrat would do something and they would want to try to do something about it. In New Jersey the people just take these politicians crap and just reelect them. The bureaucrats seem to do whatever they want because the people are like zombies here. I will be leaving this Socialist workers paradise for good this time within months. Good riddance…🤬

One of my aunts lives in Northern New Jersey, and she questions why she hasn't left.

I grew up in New Jersey, most people I know leave because of property taxes.

Don’t know how it is now, but I was an average student in NJ, got declined to most in-state schools. Went to a big southern school which wound up being cheaper than staying in-state (consider dorms/housing)

Car insurance was also higher if I remember correctly.

The public schools are top notch however, people from New Jersey are very bright. I was an average student in my town, and a top student in college out of state

I moved out of Nj the moment I qualified to retire. The totality of everything mentioned here made me move. Taxes, weather, politics were three of the top reasons why we moved and haven’t looked back. The quality of life improvement by moving is through the roof. I’m currently in South Carolina and love it here but still exploring other places to see if it might be better. Most people I know in nj either want to move or are moving.
