It’s very impressive how Gru manages to remember all the minions’ names and which one is which. I wonder how does Gru know it all when there’s so many

They may not be dumb, but it could be argued that they just have some poor impulse control. Plus, considering they're pretty much indestructible, it would make sense that they don't really have a lot of inhibitions regarding their own safety, hence their recklessness.

This was an interesting theory. My only counter arguement is the minions seem to enjoy committing evil acts no matter what scene they are in. Maybe they do want to serve an evil boss, but not a malicious one. They're like smart, rebellious kids who want to cause some trouble, but not actually cause major harm.

The angle of the Minions acting as some sort of "guardians" of the world through their comedic incompetence is definitely adding an unseen depth to the Despicable Me franchise.

Uh, If my memory serves me right, in despicable me 3, they argued and left Gru coz he wasn't villainous anymore....BUT THERE COULD BE A REASON. Maybe now seeing he isn't bad anymore, they were planning to leave him to find another villain to 'serve'. However, other than seeing their emotional connection, they might have realized how Gru and the anti-villains can help them control more villains, they returned. Also, I think they WANTED to go to jail, coz seeing their numbers and swiftness, they could've overpower the police or escape. But where can you commonly find the biggest scums of the earth now??....EXACTLY

I've never found the minions dumb. I just see them as silly at times, but they are extremely hard workers. And loyal too.

8:42 It was confirmed that the "assassin" from the Olypics opening ceremony was indeed supposed to be an assassin from assassin's creed. The costume is just so bad people didn't realise it was official.

My theory is that despite looking for evil people, the minions are instinctively good so when they make mistakes leading to the villains defeat it’s most likely intentional. It would explain why they stayed with gru aside from being kind

I think the minion language is super interesting. As a native Italian speaker, I can pick out a lot of what they are saying, along with some French, and they aren't just saying random stuff. Also, fun fact, there's only one voice actor for all of the minions

I'm 38yrs old and I watched Despicable me 4 alone and I enjoyed it. Sometimes watching kids movies lessens the stress you get from the adult world.

You forgot to mention the most obvious part. Minions are wearing glasses which they can remove. Glasses weren’t invented until 1284. So minions have been wearing glasses before humans even appeared. To create glasses they need special tools which they must’ve been smart enough to create. So they must be geniuses

Another theory to add to this is that when they left Gru in the third movie it was a test to see if he was still evil and “needed to be taken care of”, or has turned good. That’s why they accept him at the end, because he proved that he’d turned good.

Intelligence is knowing you should probably celebrate your bosses' 357th birthday.

Wisdom is knowing you probably shouldn't open the curtain in Dracula's bedroom during the daytime.

Minions aren't dumb, they're just clumsy

1:41 HOW DID I NOT REALIZE THE REFERENCE
4:30 That's how Illumination made sure their little yellow Tic-Tacs stayed far away from history's worst Austrian painter

Film Theory Idea : In the film “The Truman Show, ” there are several intriguing aspects. For instance, Truman is under constant surveillance, even before he is born. The creators built a specific environment for him to live in his entire life. It’s also fascinating how the audience never seems to get bored or concerned for Truman’s well-being. Additionally, Truman remains unaware of the surveillance until many years later. There is so much lore and depth to the story that it’s hard to explain it all. Could you make a video exploring the movie and its lore? I’m a huge fan!
