How to manage redness & itchy skin post application of Benzoyl Peroxide? - Dr. Urmila Nischal

Benzyl peroxide in a topical formulation is very preferred modality of treatment when it comes to management of pimples or acne. The most common side effects of benzyl peroxide is irritation of the skin because of dryness. What we can do to avoid this dryness is first, the face wash, Choose a face wash which is not so drying up. Instead of using face wash with glycolic acid or salicylic acid, you can go for the non-foaming facewashes which contains cetyl alcohol, which cleanses the skin without making it dry. After washing the face, you can apply liberal quantities of non comedogenic moisturizer. Keep the quantity of the benzyl peroxide application to the minimal. So what you can do is apply loads of moisturizer, the non comedogenic one and then apply a little bit of Benzyl peroxide. Also the contact time can be reduced. So instead of leaving the benzyl peroxide cram overnight, what you can do is as per your tolerance you can leave it for an hour or two hours and then wash it off with plain water. When you are using any anti acne cream in the night, miniose the washing off the face for two or three times. Don’t keep on washing the face every now and then because whatever natural moisturisation is built upon the skin is washed off because of this harsh face washes and then you are more prone to develop dryness and the irritation cause by Benzyl peroxide. If you are not able to tolerate this at all, what you can do is instead of putting on the creams or the lotion, you can switch onto benzyl peroxide facewashes. They are also pretty effective in the management of acne.

Learn from me, don’t use salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide together unless u want a red puffy swollen irritated face. Those products are too strong together

Benzoyl peroxide burned my skin after using too much on my skin😭 im.dealing with it right now. My skin is red, itchy, dry. Looks like a burn/scar. I hate that I put too much on my pimple. Hoping the redness goes away 😭☹

I've been using 10% benzoyl peroxide on my face for a couple days and tonight I woke up at 2:00 am and my face was burning and slightly red. Put on some moisturizer and a popsicle. Burning stopped and redness is going away. (Also would not recommend using 10% if you have sensitive skin. I used to much in a short amount of time which caused the burning.)

I used benzoyl peroxide this clears my pimples but redness and itches is common ..you can use benzoyl peroxide only 3 times in a week only for 3 hours after that you can wash .. otherwise it gives me best results on pimples😊and mosturize your skin is necessary

My 10 year old had a random folliculitis ans acne outbreak on one cheek, no matter what I did it wouldn't help..finally went to benzoyl peroxide 5 %, used 2x a day for 2 days and it burnt her face ! I got really REALLY bad skin hives from the benzoyl peroxide product my dermatologist gave me for my kp. After 4 weeks it went away and I went back to my dr and he gave me another product that contains benzoyl peroxide and after 3 days I using it I noticed my skin got itchy bumps and I said NOPE. I think I’m just allergic to benzoyl peroxide😔

I also used salisylic acid face wash and then benzoyl peroxide 2.5 and the next day my face got fully red and swollen and after whole day in the evening my skin is filled with water like liquid in the swollen area. I am really depressed now and don't know what to do 😭. How to treat it please some suggestions

Benzoyl peroxide. No, no hell no. Big no. Worst no. I can't explain the pain amd itchiness I'm facing. It makes me cry but i can't even cry cause then tears will touch the rash and burn more🥲. So much of constant pain, rash, scales, itching, irritation that I'm just tired. I want to scratch and scratch. Just so helpless. Bearing that one or two acne was still simple rather than this whole new level of burning. How long? Please anyone just give me a relief how long will it last?

I used epidua forte for 4 nights straight i thought that’s what my dermatologist said to do but it wasn’t my skin is flaming hot red is not only peeling but cracking and burns SOOOO much I tried moisturizers but they all burn including cetaphill I tried chapstick but these all just burned my skin what do I do ?😢I’m crying right now cause all the kids at school ask what is on your face and make fun of me and the tears burn 😰HELP
