So the next basic draw we're going to explore is drawing from below. So here you're going to turn the blade all the way over so it's facing down, and then as you do this, you're gonna want to take the scabbard and point it down, OK, and as you step forward, you pull the saya out of the scabbard off, and as your spine rises, so does the blade. And this is the basic dynamic of the upward draw. Here it is from the side. So that's the basic upward draw.

Then make a video series if you're so great. I too have my own techniques, but new information is always appreciated. Even if you are better, don't bash the guy. He's spent time training himself, filming, and using YouTube's upload service, so respect him. He's not doing anything wrong.

Silly caucasian likes to play with samurai swords. Sounded familiar?

Turning saya facing down you show opponent the way you are going to cut...
Would it not be smarter to turn it at a last moment, when Monouchi passes by the Koiguchi?

This is an insult to real swordsmanship.... So many mistakes and weird movement.

I dunno about you all, but I trust the dry didactic caucasian. He seems totally legit. Watching this video I now feel that I could last at least… at LEAST 1.22 seconds in a feudal Japanese melée battle.

This is not how you do that draw. In iaido there is a kata where we do that draw and we do not point our sword down to draw and move up with our spine. We have good posture the entire way. How did this beta make get this gig?
Also, why can't I hear the sword cut the air? I can do it with this type of draw, why can't this expert do it?

Remember horizontal strikes can parry vertical ones. Unless you guard impact. . .

There was a bit much forward lean and movement in that cut. If your intent is to get your forehead split open down to your chin, by all means do it that way.

turning the saya before drawing the blade projects to your opponent which way your going to strike with your blade. if you turn it 1/3 of the way through the draw its much more unpredictable. also the guy holds the katana like a baseball bat XD

Good for dispatching your opponent, starting with their manhood.
