Zipair To Change Logo Over Similarity With Russian War Symbol

Despite being less than three years old as a functioning carrier, Japanese low-cost airline Zipair Tokyo will be changing its logo to avoid potential conflict over its similarity with a Russian war symbol. The letter "Zed" (or Zee as Americans would say), has been used by Russian forces to identify their combat vehicles in Ukraine. Since then, this single letter has become a pro-Russia symbol supporting the country’s invasion.

The airline should have shown the character "ジ" or even "じ" which stand for "Zi" in Japanese on the tail instead because that would have been more eye-catching.

The Z was uninspiring in any case. A change is very much welcome.

Never heard of Zipair and I'm a 31 year Japan resident and regularly drive right through the middle of Haneda Airport on the Bayshore Route Expressway (湾岸線) where you can frequently see aircraft crossing the bridge that goes over the expressway 😳. That (my ignorance) aside, Japan also has territory occupied by Russia and support for Ukraine is unprecedentedly high, both by the general public and the government.

Unfortunate coincidence, but the new logo is so much better anyway. Who else thought that marketing jargon behind the old one was pure bs the marketing agency came up with to justify totally mailing it in? To me, a better story would have been “we spent so little money on our brand identity we can pass the savings on to you!”

But… I’m not in marketing so what do I know? 🤣

So they can drop the Zed and just keep the " " as the logo😅😆

The three stripes thing has similar significance as when Adidas changed to stripes and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis (car) too features such stripes in rear side panels.
.
They, I think, have significance to traditional Japanese culture or practices.
Sadly, the exact specifics .. I am unable to recall.

They should change it due to terrible graphic design!

How silly. Should we cancel the letter Z and censor all words with the letter Z?

Would have thought they'd have been better striking a deal with Qantas and fully licensing the Jetstar brand for Zip.

JAL owns some 30+% of Jetstar Japan along with Qantas and Mitsubishi, which is purely domestic focussed using 320s.

After all in Australia Jetstar has a similar medium-longhaul LCC operation using 787s.

Unfortunate coincidence, but I prefer the new logo anyway.

A change of the logo is welcome for this situation...maybe they could just put something on the tail, an object or whatever that symbolizes the airline ZipAir.
Their new one is okay for me, but pretty bland for a lowcost carrier, but understandable since repainting an aircraft is costly.

I mean this would be the perfect time to rework the branding and livery as a whole. White and green are colors that should never be used as standalones, especially not with minimalistic fonts…

I was on Zipair for visiting Japan, I remembered seeing the Z symbol in June 10.

I think that the omly thing that is "infinitely blank" is their minds.

If we continue like this, Z will be dropped from the alphabet. lol
No one would think a Japanese airline with "Z" on its aircrafts' tails is in any connection with Russia and the ongoing war. But oh well.

The original livery is almost non existent anyway, so any update can only be an improvement.

They should have added “Ed”. Then it would say Zed. No confusion anymore.

This is silly. I mean I get the good intentions but will Z become cancelled now? Like what happens to the “ABC” song? How does it end?
