I followed your advice, Andy, and I found an absolutely great channel of a graphic designer, who not only talk about how to make a great portfolio, but he also has videos about how to follow the passion even all people around you are against it. He also talks about the sacrifices he made to reach his dream job. I go great ideas from you first, then from him... now let's go! :)

One thing I sacrrify is relationships. I have not succeeded to create a great relationship with anyone, and all candidates that are appearing, just disturb me. Then, he also said, that when he was going towards his goals, he had no time for a party, girls, things like this. He put his full focus on becoming what he wants.

STEP 1 - Make sure I want the career change: I went back to college to complete a degree on this. I also completed a certificate course which isn't cheap. On top of all these, I said no to promotions, eventually had to leave a good paying job, and am willing to start again. :/

STEP 2 - I was willing to study again, and live frugally in the process. This has been 3 years in the making.

STEP 3 - I've been building my capabilities for three years now. I've been blessed enough to dip into the role for 9 months and I loved it way too much.

STEP 4 - I looked for people in Linked In who are already in the profession and I bravely messaged them about my plans and what they think. Three responded and two of them provided wme with great nuggets and resource materials! I love it! I also asked a former manager to help me with creating a portfolio.

STEP 5 - I am following youtubers who give tutorials that help me achieve the capabilities I need for this new role. I also have a LinkedIn profile. I also recently just got my certificate for a program connected to the new role and I've met a network of people who love helping others <3

STEP 6 - I have a job interviewing problem (how do I explain why I left a great job and how do I present myself as ready). Fortuantely, I found you to overcome these issues! THANK YOU SO MUCH.

STEP 7 - I am getting prepared to write my resume, prepare my portfolio, and prep for the interviews.

Andrew, you are gold. Thank you for assuring me that Im doing well. With this kind of unintended positive reinforcement, I am at an even better place. You're point at 22:00 is especially helpful so I can get a glimpse of how I can be more hirable. Thank you for all these. I'm sure I will need more of your videos because this is just a short term goal that I'm fulfilling. I still have a long term goal to accomplish.

Hi Andrew, I want to thank you for making so much valuable content available to everyone. I have benefited greatly from your YouTube videos and have encouraged others to watch/listen. I recently acquired a position that I did not have most of the qualifications for, but was able to demonstrate my capabilities using my work, volunteer and personal experiences. Knowing that this was a concern for the interviewer, I followed up my first interview with a thank you note and written responses to each of their stated qualifications to support my ability to excel in the position. The other component that was extremely helpful was my network. I happened to have a mutual connection with the interviewer that he trusted. I did not have this person listed as a reference but when they were asked about me they said something to the effect of "It doesn't matter that she lacks experience; she can do the job." Through the process of interviewing for the position I was humbled and amazed by the support of my network/friends. Again thank you for all you do!

I know that you’re very busy, but I feel a lot of people would get value from career change cover letter tips. (I would also much appreciate it) Love your videos by the way! Keep up the hard work, because you provide immense value to many people!

Solid advice. Thank you so much Andrew! I have been binge watching your videos all morning after feeling stuck and lost with my resume and job seeking. I don't have years in any one particular role or position and was feeling like a lost case, but after listening and taking notes I have an understanding of how I can really think about what I have done and present it in the best possible way. I have so much work to do to prepare and figure all of this out and these videos have pointed me in the right direction.

So glad to finally be able to watch this =). Can't wait to start tackling all of these areas. My biggest issue right now is trying to figure out what I want next (I think I want to work in healthcare admin but am not sure exactly where, which made me realize I really need to work on the "learning issue" too). I think step 1 and making a list of what I want will help and also researching more exactly what hca type positions are out there, and what capabilities I have already that line up too. Whenever I search online I get overwhelmed but I realize now I'll never know where to look until I know what I'm looking for. Thank you so much!

I have a phone interview for a behind-the-scenes position at a company
(my ideal location), but it is not my ideal job.  I’m looking at it as a way to get my foot in
the door and work my way up.  What are your thoughts about getting your foot in the door where you want to be toward potentially moving higher there?

Hi Andrew,

First, I'd like to thank you for your expert advice! I greatly appreciate it! Secondly, How would you approach securing your first network engineer position? A little about me....I have worked in the IT field since 2000, (this includes a 5 year gap (financial debacle of 2008)), purchased a 7-piece home lab and taught myself the requirements for obtaining my CCNA. Currently studying for the CCNA Security certification and I was fortunate enough to win a scholarship to further my training.

Soft skills, I am self-motivated, diligent, tenacious and enjoy getting my feet wet with new technologies. The problem I am facing is I have yet to land my first interview. I'm thinking it's that 5 year gap. I try to explain in my cover letter my passion for the role in hopes of piquing some interest. It has not happened yet. Any advice you can offer would be terrific!

Thanks again for all you do!

The best,
Michelle Middleton

Andrew so sad that I missed the live broadcast 😟 anyways thankfully I can re-watch it as many times as want. Thank you so much for your videos. I started to work somewhere and I really like it but the only thing is the payment. With all the things I have done, I think it is like a joke..I see this place as a place of work experience but after getting a bit of job experience I want to move to another company which pays more. But I want to prepare for that time now. I know if I get to anther company's job interview, they will ask me why I do not want to work at the other place anymore.. but I cannot say "it is because of the money"😥 how should I answer this question?

Hey Andy,
Thanks for your time and videos. I will have my B. S. I'm Biochemistry this fall. Do you recommend that a science based degree send a CV resume? Have you ever seen a chemist's resume? What are your thoughts about a CV vs a regular resume?

Hi Andrew,

I have seen your videos and great tips for career searching. I recently left a contracting job as an admin for a gym and before i worked as an Assistant Manager for residential management companies about 20 years. My thing is i really loved working from home and having that flexibility and i thought of starting my own virtual assistant business. Ive created my own website and done my research on cost and blogs and seeking clients. But its new and i need to know how else i can network and find those clients that really believe on virtual assisting. Or understand the reason behind it. .... Sooo my question is...
1. should i find part time work while i get my business going?
2. Should i create a resume with my business included?
3. Do businesses feel threaten when they hire someone with a small business.
On your last video i asked about presenting a personality test with the resume... reason was i went to an interview... i thought it was for accounting and instead it was for health insurance agent. Some one showed up with their personality test and the broker was hyped 😆excited like chips on i was confused by then!! I couldnt smile and do eye contact enough to figure out what was expected of me... i knew in the back of my mind i didnt need it.. but its been a while since ive done interviews and resumes... times have changed 20 years back... what do you think or suggest.. ?

Thank you in advance.
