Hahaha I’ve been guilty of tying knots to tie a knot. I laughed out loud when you said that because it painted such a picture in my head of doing just that. I wish I knew a lot more knots. I’m going to start following you.

I learned this knot along with all the rest of the basic Boy Scout knots when I was a kid. It’s one of the most useful knots I know. I still regularly use all of those knots.

I worked as a power line maintenance tree trimmer right out of high school, and the "taunt line hitch" was the first knot I learned before I was allowed to climb a tree. It is the safety knot used to keep you from falling and it is an easy repel down by just pulling down on the knot. Great post and a perfectly taught skill here!😅

My dad taught me the trucker hitch, a slip knot in the main line and then use it as a “pulley” to tighten it up and tie off

Two phrases I heard offshore drilling “if you can’t tie knots, tie lots” and “if you can’t tie any, tie many”

Glad I was a bushcrafter who knew knots well.
