One problem that all these news stations always forget to ask or talk SCAMS! One of, if not the main reason, most insurance policies are so high in Florida is due to the amount of insurance scams that occur on a daily basis. Most of them in SFL. Whether it's automotive insurance, medical insurance, or homeowner's insurance the locals there do it all the time. I know because I was born and raised in SFL. And I myself witnessed it, especially after EVERY single storm. Home owners climbing onto their roofs and purposely damaging it then submitting a claim to their insurer. I swear SFL is the insurance scam central of the US, I got out the first chance I could.

The State of Florida and the Insurance Commissioner should do all they can to promote the construction of monolithic dome homes. They are virtually hurricane proof; engineering studies show ability to resist 300 mph winds, so if the structure is elevated enough, hurricane damage is unlikely. And no, I am in no way associated with MDI (Monolithic Dome Institute) or the construction industry, but if my home is demolished by a hurricane, I can GUARANTEE you it will be rebuilt as a monolithic dome and not a "stick-built" home.
