This lengthy video goes over some basics such as the anatomy and optics of the eye as well as the composition of the vitreous humor. Breakdown and degeneration of the vitreous is responsible for aggregation, thickening, and clumping of the collagen proteins responsible for the shadows cast on to the retina creating the phenomenon called vitreous eye floaters. These are the spots, clouds, shadows, and blurred areas of vision that drive you to distraction. We also discuss how the laser is designed in a way to reduce risk to the patient undergoing laser vitreolysis.

The Floater Doctor, James H. Johnson M.D. is Medical Director of the only medical practice in the world specializing in, and exclusively treating bothersome spots, shadows, and clouds that affect your vision. Although common, especially changes such as posterior vitreous detachment (PVDs) as we age, these vitreous eye floaters are rarely offered treatment by your local and well qualified eye care providers, even at top specialty institutions. Dr. Johnson uses a specialized FDA-approved YAG laser to vaporize and destroy the proteins in the vitreous that are responsible for your spots, shadows, and moving blurred areas in your vision. He has been doing so since 2007 making him one of, if not the most experienced in the very specialty niche area in ophthalmology, a pioneer in this field.

Wish we can have you in Taiwan, Dr. Johnson. Every doctors I visited here told me to live with my floaters. I wonder how one can live with something blocking your eyes when you are driving and reading?

Excellent overview!
I'm 77, and the increase in floater density in one eye became my newest health concern ---- hoping that retinal detachment will not compound my concern.

I definitely notice when a doctor dilates my eyes, my floaters definitely are harder to see.

So for younger sufferers....they just have to remain miserable because of floaters for the rest of their lives...which didn’t even started properly yet...? :/

Hello, Thank you so much for this information! Helpful! I think I have the cloud floater which I call a swipe across my eye especially when I look form right to left then I get this cloud like blurry that moves across my eye from left to right. it is really bad when in car driving! I am hoping that it will go away, it went from white web like flash to this blurry cloud like image after YAG procedure, so sorry that I had that done made my eye vision worse! anyway glad that I found your videos!!!

9:16 I don't know why doctors have told me "if the laser misses your target it's going to continue all the way to your retina and you're screwed. "I'm 27"
