All we hear about from nearly everyone in the YouTube golf university has become the "effortless swing" when in reality, applying what we're being told does not make it effortless. Keeping the forward arm straight, coiling against the hips, keeping your front foot planted during the backswing, posting up against the forward leg, etc. ALL of these things create tension throughout the body which is the last thing you want in your swing, especially for weekend golfers & even more so for those who are out of their peak performance years. Young golfers are also being taught this way that in the future as they age will have a detrimental impact on the body, specifically the back & shoulders. How many of today's young stars have already had surgeries on backs, hips, knees & shoulders from the violent movements they subject their bodies to? Woods with numerous back & knee surgeries, Koepka with knees, DeChambeau with wrist, back, hand, & hip surgeries, Jason Day with back issues for years. All of these in the quest for more power & distance. How many of the old timers went thru these injuries & surgeries while swinging the club? How many lost weeks or months of a season sitting at home healing rather than playing? The simple fact is that the human body was not designed for golf & that all of what players are being taught are all of the things I listed causing unnecessary injuries to young golfers & being copied by amateurs who aren't even the elite athletes that today's players are & expect to achieve the same results. A swing is called a swing because it's not a violent lash but a relaxed easy motion that protects the body by not applying strain & tension to the body which actually causes most to lose swing speed by trying to swing harder & faster which also tightens the grip pressure & it's a never-ending cycle. We can hit the ball a long way just by relaxing & removing the effort of trying to hit it farther with movements that most of us aren't capable of. Relax your body & let it move naturally without the tension created by resisting & trying to create torque we're being taught we need to hit the ball farther that's also wrecking our bodies by doing so. It's all fine until chasing the holy grail of golf which is distance trashes your back.
