I was on the QE2 for a transatlantic crossing in 1996. We had 50 foot waves for more than a day. They slowed the ship to make it more comfortable so we later getting to NYC than expected. Cunard rescheduled our air flights for us. We were told that if we weren’t on an ocean liner (!) we would be stopped by the waves or going backwards. During a subsequent cruise, I attended a lecture about rogue waves and other weather phenomena on the sea. It scared me!
I doubt if I will sail again, but the times aboard are great memories.

Seeing those rough seas takes me back to my Navy days. It may have been the only time I was glad that I had a bottom bunk.I hope that one person will be okay.

Mornin' Doug! Rough stuff with a rogue wave large enough to cause serious injuries. Prayers for all.
Thanks for producing such a great cruise news program. It's part of my morning routine. Have a great weekend!

Stumbled upon this channel. In the 1980s, I worked for Bermuda Star Line. It was eventually swallowed up by Commodore, then Carnival. You get used to vagaries of ocean crossing, although most passengers freak at the slightest swell! I did, however, sail on one or two real corkers where the pianos fell over, all the merchandise was damaged. That was a little scary. But BSL’s ships included the old SS Argentina and Brasil, which had a deep draught and rode the waves well. Today’s cruise ships are so top-heavy, it’s no surprise that they react violently to rough seas.

I took a cruise on the elation down to the Mexican Caribbean and had a great time. I consider taking another cruise sometime sometime, but not in the winter.

I had that experience on my very first cruise ....in 1978. The Norwegian CARRIBEAN Line's Southward which was a whopping 17, 000 gross tons and we were sailing through a "blustery" and dark Bermuda Triangle at the time. I was in awe as I watched the ship's pool massively emptied out over the deck and the furniture crashed against the glass surrounding the deck. Good times...and yet I'm still cruising.
