People’s love for Bengali is one of the prime reason why the whole country of Bangladesh exists. Huge respect for the people and their love and pride in their language and culture.

That "Akshay" word literally translates to "Okkhoy"-" অক্ষয়" in Bengali, Which means "Incorruptible". But we can pronounce "sha" or "sa".

I am a proud Bengali and I can tell you that we love our language. I am Bangladesh. We are the only people who fight for our language our mother tongue.

Actually, in Bengali there're every word that exist in Hindi & we can pronounce them like Hindi. But unlike Hindi, we don’t pronounce exactly what's written in the script.
Also, there're some words in Bengali which doesn’t even exist in English. And a native English speaker can't pronounce them.

It was really bold of you to take this video on. I know a lot of native Hindi speakers (and even some Bengali speakers) who would've faced a tough time tackling all the grammatical and pronunciation examples. Kudos to you two!

Let me clear out how 'Akshaya'(Sanskrit) transitioned into 'Okkhoy'(Bangla).

First of all, keep in mind that Bangla writing system is almost fully 'phonetic' like Italian. So, our 'ka' is like italian 'q', not english 'q'. Italian doesn’t have a 'kha' sound. But, our 'kha' is like the 'ka' sound added with an 'h'. It is just like the english 'q/k/c' while pronouncing 'queen/king/car'.

Now, let's understand the transition. In german, the english word 'I' is 'Ich'. Well, this 'Ich' is quite tricky to pronounce. If you listen carefully, you will notice that 'Ich' sits right between the 'Ikh' and the 'Ish' sounds. As if, 'Ikh' and 'Ish' both were pronounced at the same time. The 'ch' part in 'Ich' makes kind of a hissing 'kha' sound. This is the sweet transitional point where human larynx transforms the 'sha' sound into the hissing 'kha' sound and eventually into the clear 'kha' sound.

Remember, not all the 'sha' in Bangla is pronounced as 'kha'. We have actually three 'sha's. They are 'sa', 'sha' and 'shha'. The first one is exactly like the english 's'; 'sha' is like 'sh' in the 'sheep' and 'shha' is kinda like the hissing 'sha' in german, only having more weight on the 'sh' end rather than on the hissing end. Mostly, we pronounce all of these sounds like 'sha'. But, if the third 'sha' (meaning 'shha') comes after a 'ka' sound, it naturally transforms into a 'kha' sound.

That is how Ak'sh'aya becomes Ok'kh'oy.

Don't ask how A becomes O. That's a story for another night. :3

Can't blame you.. There are somethings that you just can't understand without the alphabets.. Like with the name Akshay..
In fact Assamese is very similar to Bengali since both have the same origin
