I think the Standard does sound better in this clip but, you could put two standards side by side and they wouldn't sound the same either.

Dude awesome job on playing the perfect riff for the Les Paul sound.

Listening without watching, I would just say the standard had a bit more grit and texture to it. But overall absolutely no reason to pay double the price.

They both sound like the excellent Les Paul tone I would expect.

It doesn't hurt that Jamie is such a phenomenal guitarist either.

Headphones on 🎧 and eyes 👀 closed, I couldn't tell much of a difference except that there was this nostalgic crispness to the Standard that made me feel like I was back in my old room listening to old rock tape player. I'd pay if I could afford it but they're both great!

Damn tributes used to be under $1000! I remember getting a 2012 or 2013 on clearance for $399

I have a 2018 Tribute (before they did the weight relief). It kicks ass!

I think the tribute is clearer, I've had so many tributes over the years and each one has been amazing. I had a DC standard which was also amazing, any differences in sound (IMO) can be matched with pickups and electronics change

I absolutely love the tribute.the satin finish and the price is absolutely amazing!

Most of our heros played on hacked together or gift guitars or cheap throw-aways. I like nice stuff just as much as the next guy. Don't get me wrong. The difference is the person in the music.

Standard sounds like it has newer strings on.

So. I've got multiple Gibson's from customs and rereleases to a tribute.

The difference in sound is going to be preference. The standard is powerful bright and clear while the tribute is darker heavier and less clear.

Depending on the sound you want the tribute could be the superior tone

I have both those guitars. And though I do love the standard more the tribute is a worthy addition to any collection

It doesn't matter if it sounds better. In the guitar world you'll always have players who think expensive/vintage/analogue sounds better. It's the reason Klons and Dumbles costing more than my house exist.

Les Paul tribute was $699 in 2017, now is $1299 in 2023. I will keep looking for the pre-own guitars.

own the 2017 tribute I bought new for $999 in 2017 and love it. but will be getting a custom soon

The difference is negligible, you wont notice it in a live setting. Thats one of the reasons why i go for vastly different guitars, because theres no point in buying a guitar for a slightly different sound, unless you want a backup.

Depends on your pocketbook and depends on your ear. I kind of like the cheaper one the tribute, but that's my ear. And you're a hell of a picker my friend

It feels twice as good… So I bet it makes one play better… 😊
