i never realized until recently that guitar tone actually comes from your eyes and the pricetag!

I’ll spend $1000-2000 on a guitar, anything more you’re paying for brand/prestige. I’ve got a $1300 Les Paul and a $1200 Ibanez and I’ve played others that are more expensive and while there may be slight differences, I love my boys.

Anything above $400 I’ve had good luck with, anything less and it’s hit or miss, but if less is what you can afford I still have a $200 Ibanez I play because the neck feels fantastic.

They sound a little different, but both sound great. Certainly one is a bit easier on the wallet.

The Epi is awesome 👌 especially for the price, I've got an Epiphone Les Paul gold top p90 56, it's amazing 👏

I have played on a stock Squier Obey Strat and a Gibson Les Paul Supreme through the same plug-ins. I'll take the $99 guitar any day.

It’s not about which sounds better, it’s about which feels better

The 1st had a bit more mids but the 2nd didn't but very slight, not anything you can tell without a side-by-side comp

After playing guitar for a while, it really comes down to two things. Firstly, a really playable NECK, which SUITS your hands - fingerboard radius, neck profile. Additionally, it must be properly FINISHED - straight as a die, with really good fretwork and a smooth fingerboard. The second is high quality pickups and good wiring. If the pickups are poor, you can always upgrade. You can also add other hardware - such as locking tuners, a new bridge, or tremelo arm - to a more budget level instrument. But if the guitar has a bad neck from day one, then the guitar is going to fight you every time you try to play it. In the end, as long as a $500 guitar has the essentials right, then everything else is a bonus. To spend $5000 on a guitar is actually quite obscene. The reality is that lot of people just buy into the IDEA of it being much better than one which costs one tenth of the price, but that is not neccesarily the case. As long as the instrument plays really well, that is all that matters.

I can honestly hear the difference. It is very subtle but there are people that are willing to pay almost 10x as much to stand out just that little bit.

The cheap one has a lower tone, I'd personally purchase that one - but as I've aged my hearing has changed and yet when I was younger I used to use high treble distortion - every axeman has his own taste

I had a Les Paul std Epi which I paid about 800
Sounded awesome I had it for about 15 years and recently sold it for 850
I just bought an entry level Jackson for myself and a Squire Telecaster for my son total cost for both was 650
They both sound awesome
Ive been playing guitar for over 45 years
In my experience the price tag on "top quality" brand names is a con
A good guitarist can make a cheaper guitar sound good just as a very average guitarist makes an expensive guitar sound crappy

I disagree, yes, it looks and sounds amazing. But I never liked the neck feels out of proportion compared to other guitars, feels like the neck is not attached to the body. I always hated SG’s and I am kinda sad because of how good they look. Then again this is my personal opinion. Great video, Danilo!

The Gibson sounds a bit more clear but its because of the pickups. If you change the am put something a lit bit better, there is no other difference

The Custom has a little more output and clarity, but not much more... definitely not enough to substantiate a more than $5K price difference.

Of course, the headstock snobs and corksniffers will vehemently disagree with that, and that's OK; they're usually below average players who believe that owning an expensive guitar with that particular name on the headstock will make them better players...😉😁

The moral of this never-ending story is, don't be a snob or a corksniffer and don't shit on a lower priced budget guitar because you're brainwashed by the "Only a Gibson is good enough" tagline...

Oh, and speaking of headstocks, you'll have far less worries about headstock cracks and breaks with an Epiphone...😁🎸👊👏👍
