Not to be a nerd, but the premise of the game is flawed: trees grow better when their roots touch. They share nutrients and resources from tree to tree by their roots and even help saplings grow better even when the sapling might otherwise die due to lack of water or sunlight.

Even if the roots not being able to touch each other makes no sense, the way the trees are kind of mirrored in their roots is pretty cool

Irl Voles might be attracted to your apple trees because of japanese beetles larva growing underneath. If you have japanese beetles, dealing with them could reduce the voles.
