In this video, I react to a thought-provoking survey conducted in rural areas of the Rostov region. The original video dives deep into the challenges faced by local residents: deteriorating living conditions, the collapse of industrial buildings, and the ongoing exodus from villages. I’ll share my thoughts as villagers recount their struggles, from saving their post office, where pensions are distributed, to coping with the lack of medical professionals, even administering injections themselves. The video also explores the prevalence of unemployment and alcohol consumption in these communities. Together, we’ll unpack the big question: do rural Russians still believe in change, and what does their future hold?

What about your countries? What's the situation like with villages there? Are they also dying out like in Russia, or are the authorities trying to preserve them in some way?

I remember at the start of the Ukraine invasion, when Russian TV was boasting about how europe will be on its knees begging for Russian gas and oil to survives winters, etc. Didnt quite work out like their boasts.

- there is simply no limit to the tragedy that is Russia. Poor and powerless people totally ignored by their leaders.

Before Russia illegally and unjustly invaded Ukraine in 2014 despite various treaties and agreements to international condemnation and started a very costly 10 year war, Russia had great wealth flowing in from exporting oil and gas to wealthy, developed Europe but still had very low standards of living for the average Russian, much lower than the former Soviet states now part of the EU.
Now Russia has permanently lost the foreign income from Europe, 80% of its exports earnings so now the Russian budget is in very severe deficit, inducing crippling debt. Even GazProm is failing, now bankrupt, unable to sell enough gas to stay afloat!
Europe has switched to alternate gas suppliers but also reduced demand by switching to "greener" sources, it is never going to buy Russian gas again. Russia bit the hand that fed it, threatening Europe was not wise.
It could be asked if Russian pensioners are so impoverished with inadequate pensions, why aren't they being provided with free gas from the pipelines running past their houses?
Russia is in decline. It has a bleak long term future that is obvious.

I live in a very small village in central France with 100 inhabitants. We have a village council that does everything possible to improve our lives and especially attract Young families but it is virtually impossible because the nearest industrial centre is 40kms away.
For those of us that remain life is pretty confortable.
Nice well maintained Lake for the community, good well maintained roads, a new village hall, Optic fibre internet, bus service.
I am very happy here.

As a Canadian of Ukrainian descent I really pity these poor villagers. My grandparents left such conditions in 1904 but appears this village is still stuck in 1904.

The people needs to organize. Only the people themselves can change the situation, but centuries of submission has wiped all personal initiative off their vocabulary.

This leprosy of the infrastructure where nothing works anymore will spread throughout Russia. No corner will be left untouched, not even the electric generators in Putin's palaces. From the ashes of the USSR massive foreign investment brought the late 20th and early 21st century to Russia. They provided the money, the equipment, the technical and managerial skills. They maintained the machines, repaired them, when they broke, and replaced them when they wore out. Russia had never been so well off and had so much hope on its 1000 year history. But what took 30 years to buildvwas destroyed in 30 seconds with the stroke of a pen giving an order to invade and destroy another country for no other reason to rebuild a slave empire. A tapestry of lies was woven to hide the truth. Those whonhadca shred of humanity in them fled disgusted by this senseless monstrous crime no different from the German Nazis 80 years earlier fled wanting no part of it. These were the well educated professionals who were aware of what was happening.

Those who stayed behind revealed they didn't have a shred of empathy for their Victims. The foreigners left too taking their knowledge, skills and all other assets to sustain an industrial society with them. What they left behind that they created was left to rot like the weeds choking off a now intended garden. In five years everyone remaining in this accursed frozen hell will be dead and this time nobody from the outside will care. This war was a death sentence for Russia.

Love your sarcastic humor amid the gloom and doom. It emphasizes the point with a chuckle.

I remember a "joke". Babushka says "Putin stated that the West is trying to bring Russia to its knees!", and granddaughter says "Yes, Putin prefers us on the ground!"

It’s sad that the Russian people have been oppressed for hundreds of years by all political persuasions. George Orwell Animal Farm 😢

Oh I bet Turk Carlson can go into one of those little towns and make it look like a thriving metropolis a beautiful country, which is exactly what Putin wanted Tucker Carlson to show the world, when the reality of it is that the place is barren people are suffering, so let's make it very clear to the Americans here who think that Vladimir Putin's a great guy why don't you pack your bags and go live there then

In Hungary, remote villages are also dying out.

The similarities between the how it is in Hungary and what can be seen in this video, are very familiar bone chilling. People leaving, no post offices, no schools, no medical facilities, people burning trash and plastic to keep warm if then run out of firewood.

It’s like Orban’s government is modeling it’s “rural strategy” on what’s happening in Russia.
