For many the Mormon faith is synonymous with antiquated doctrines like polygamy, but with two now running for US presidency this report gets inside the community to see what Mormonism really means.

Mormonism is suddenly everywhere in today's media, with insights into the life of polygamists satisfying the voyeuristic tendencies of a modern audience. For many this is a inaccurate association: "we haven't practised polygamy for over a century". But for a core group of "fundamentalists", polygamy remains a central doctrine. Although the political candidates Romney and Huntsman may blame these "heretics" for tarnishing their candidacy, polygamy is not the only doctrine which encourages prejudice. The church also eschews homosexuality and only accepted African-Americans in 1978, leaving lingering accusations of racism. For one Mormon prophet, dreams of the White House are premature: "the only answer is more time and continued articulation, conversation and explanation".

When it comes to religion as long as you don't hurt goes. I totally disagree with these people, I think they are just brainwashed, I cannot accept that someone can be called an Apostole (who decides? only Jesus decided who woud the Apostoles be) but it is their religion, their beliefs and if they do not try to brainwash others (which they do with great caution) I will not myself try to convince them that they are wrong.

A man had a private spiritual encounter, where he produced a book which he said was from God. He said it confirmed previous Scriptures, though in actual fact it added fundamentally new doctrines (and by implication, overrode previous doctrines). It never outright criticised the actual Scriptures Christians had, but this Book by implication criticised them. To make sense of their new religion, these followers had to say that the Word of God in the Bible had been corrupted and lost somewhere on the way. This new book produced a whole load of other stories about Prophets. But rather than these Prophets speaking this themselves, with miracles of amazing power that were witnessed by whole communities of people (such as seeing the Red Sea part, or seeing a man raised from the dead), this man instead asked you to believe the book based on your feeling of simply reading that book. The man who declared himself a Prophet used his revelation to justify marrying many women. He also used his book to justify a return to legalism. The effect of his book was to bring the "holy land" to the place where he lived. That man's name was Muhammad and the book he brought was the Quran, and he brought the "holy land" to Mecca and the Kaaba, and used his revelation to justify marrying many women. If that story sounds similar, it's because its meant to- it's been rehashed and repackaged just for you. But if you want the Message that was confirmed by the Prophets themselves, where God promised not to let His Word pass away (Isaiah 40:8), and declared that death would not overcome His Message (Matthew 16:18), then I exhort you to look into the Message of love and grace in the Bible, whereby the "One True God" saves you, even when you were counted as His enemy (Romans 5:10). That was done in love. If you want to explore that message more, consider the videos on youtube by the "Bible Project". And if you want to refute me on anything I've said, please feel free. I'm not anti-Mormon, I love Mormons. But I also love the truth and I love the perfect Word of God which is "is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for EVERY good work". (2 Timothy 3:16-17, emphasis added). Love, peace and respect to all.

There isn’t such thing as just a Morman. There are many types of Mormons. Salt Lake City LDS, Colorado City Mormons (FLDS), modern polygamists that broke away from FLDS (Colorado City) Mormons, gay/liberal LDS and the Romney Mormons who live in Mexico who are or were FLDS. It’s complicated certainly not black and white.

When God Said THOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY < I Really think GOD meant For 1 Woman and 1 Man To be In A Marriage, If a Woman only need 1 man then a Man only Needs 1 Woman . And if We Believe In The 1 GOD sent as the Messiah . And I mean Truly Believe and Put our Faith the Promised 1 From GOD, Yeshua Or Jesus Christ He has Many Names . Then Why Do mean really want all these wives ?? If Not For SEX !

The modern LDS church did "sell out" even if the modern church still denies it. More money & power if you don't rock the vote. Can't loose that Tax Exempt 501c3 status.

I feel sorry for the housemother; I'm a mother of three and I have a husband who is needy and a true southern manly man. I'm exhausted most days and I haven't even gone back to work.

Come ON Jeffery!! You Mormons STILL PRACTICE POLYGAMY TODAY!!
You don't live together as a polygamous family, but you DO STILL create polygamous families in "heaven". Two of your fellow apostles, Oaks and Nelson both lost their wives in death and both remarried a few years later. They remarried in the temple to their 2nd wife "for time and all eternity". IOW, they will, according to LDS theology, have more than one wife each in the next life.
THAT'S POLYGAMY!!

I'm watching the video to learn what Mormons believe today because the church changes from year to year it seems. When I was young the LDS church is not the same church today as it was then.

The two things that will dog Mormons until the end of time: 1) Curse of Cain and 2) Polygamy. These are two things they refuse to own and will side step whenever they are called to task on these issues. Until they truly own these things, they will never have any credibility. It wasn't the rank and file that introduced these ideas, it was their leaders. There leaders chose to trumpet these things and say they were divinely inspired. Their leaders claimed they spoke for God and this is truly what's even more disturbing about each of these issues.
