Yea but once I finish configuring my system I'll be able to do so much work.

I’ve digested so much content on Linux and your like one of the only people who have said this. It’s so true man. I like your style for sure.

Hence why NixOS looks like the best thing. Configure it once and live with it for life.

Incremental changes to config can still be made of course.

i got arch a few months ago and spent about a week learning how to configure hyprland to get the macros for my keyboard lights + volume and whatever, then i spent the next week configuring the terminal and learning more of that stuff, then the next i spent learning waybar etc. Idk point is, i was okay with the default (no matter how ugly it was) because i would work on something for a bit, then just chillout and watch youtube or whatever. Im only barely configuring sddm right now, and is till need to finish doing waybar and other stuff. For me ricing is a slow process that occurs only when i need it to.

Improving my workflow is usually the reason I spend time configuring. Problem is I sometimes spend more time configuring than the amount of time I save by improving the workflow.

Theprimeagen has a really good way to not fall into configuration hell, he just configures his environment every 6 months

You can set up pywal to change all your colors depending on your wallpaper so you just set a theme and it changes for you whenever you change your wallpaper, which you can also set to do every time you restart hyprland 👀

If spending all of my time tweaking and configuring is wrong, then I don't want to be right. When was that deliverable due again?

What are you using to write on the screen

Truth! When I first tried Linux around sixteen years ago, it was all about the cool stuff. I vaguely remember trying to get some floating rotating cube for workspace management to work right.

Or trying to get the color scheme just so, or the translucency of the window just perfect. What an utter waste of time.

When I decided to use Garuda Linux, I chose XFCE instead of the splashy Dragonized because I need to get stuff done. And Garuda already has a great GUI for setting up Bottles, Virtualization with QEMU / Virt, Wine, etc…. Things I want and need but don’t have time to learn at the moment. I just want off Windows, and Garuda provides that.

It's such a bizarre clip to me because I've seen a few of his clips over the past few days and he really feels like the epiphany of not doing any work but making things be flashy.

With all due respect, I don’t care how much configuring you do. I will configure until the cows come home if that’s what I want to do. Part of being able to create workflows which take full advantage of the available tools is configuring things, and actually Doing configuration is “ getting work done.”

Configuration. The legitimate way to waste time.
