Very interesting and good presentation. I have a xbox e with same issue, driving me crazy! Going to look at that board now wish me luck and thank you.
Ok done, not the capacitor because mine is the e version. The board has been modified presumably to correct the design fault you mention above. No it was the connecting plug which had developed grubby terminals over time resulting in loss of power to the board. Took it out and in a few times to clean the connections, job done, thank you for the lead hope this helps others.

I think manufacturers today make things deliberately difficult to access in order to repair, they'd much rather have you go out and buy a new one. I hope your finger isn't to charred bro.

I have a 360 that dosnt turn on. I plug the power adapter in the wall and the power brick goes orange and when I plug it into the xbox the light turns red. I replaced the power button board and nothing changed. I checked the USB pins and they seem fine. The power adapter is fine cuz it works perfect with my other 360. I think a capacitor may have went bad on the main board but I'm not any good at tracing them or have a voltage meter.

So I know it's been 5 years but I'm wondering if the RF board where it got super hot to the touch was just as hot after your fix ? I ask bc I also burned some index finger and thumb skin when trying to power it on. Sadly my ribbon cable tore when putting the 360 together so it is dead until I can get a new glossy black cover with the ribbon intact. I don't know if I also need to replace the RF board. It just seemed to me to be incredibly hot to be normal operating procedure.

My Xbox 360 power adaptor has a red light instead of green or orange, It says on the sticker "Red = Power fault". The console won't turn on at all, but the metal chassis seems to be conducting electricity as my line tester lights up when touched.

If the power adapter has the red light going and if it has detected a fault shouldn't it prevent power from going to the console?
I wonder if the entire console board is fried as a result of this thought I didn't see any burnt capacitors or other components when I opened it up.

I have the old "fat" power brick, quite hard to come by not sure if it can even be fixed.

Why would you waste time on the power supply when you can check the output with a multimeter? The correct ratings are on the back of the console....

Hi! I hope you respond. On the first test, where we use the voltmeter on the power line and 5v, i only get 5 volts when i tap on the power button. What does it mean? Have i done something wrong? Pls, i don't want to trash this great console. Bye

i have an xbox halo 4 edition. and the power button itself is flashing red. when it turns on the xbox logo comes up then shuts itself off. everyone is saying that the xbox board is gone. xbox has not been played on to much since we bought it new. The xbox was my brothers, it also has my brothers profile. all the save games he played and everything he had with his last touch to it. my brother passed away in 2013. the xbox use to turn on like it was new. its only been played on about 10 times already. he liked minecraft on there and he has his worlds on that. along with other games. but xbox and PC repairs wont help me fix the xbox. idk what to do or what is truly wrong with it. :(

Hi. Happy new year! I know it's 2025 now, but I would like to know if the console is still working fine without the capacitor. Reason is, I was playing WWE 2k14 on my 360 slim and it suddenly died. Power brick light is still orange. Would like to remove the capacitor but not sure about how long it would work fine without it.

Do you need a hot air rework station or can you just add a big solder blob to remove the cap? My friend has this same problem on a Halo Reach edition and I want to remove the cap without destroying the pads. I have a Weller analog soldering station but no hot air. On another video, the guy said to replace it with a 100nF 50v cap but I'm not sure if that's correct or not. This would be my first attempt at an SMD component replacement.

Hello der need some info. I have an xbox 360 slim, it front panel is not working but the console cant be turned on using its wired controller connected to the back. The console turns on after pressing the xbox logo on the controller. But once its turned on. The controller gets out of sync and does not work afterwards.Based on your expertise on which area should I look for faults?

Good day Jonny fix. I have the exact same symptoms. PSU light turns green when feedback voltage manually supplied. I opened the console found C57 on the front panel but it is not shorted, it is open circuit. Removed the cap and it works. I would like to replace the cap with the same value but I cannot find any schematic for this. Perhaps you know the value?
