I agree with your impression of this paddle. I love it, but it's not for everyone, especially for those without the patience to get through the season of mastery it requires. I would not suggest for below intermediate at all.

As for the head heaviness and balance point, it did not bother me one bit. In fact, I thought it played very well in its stock form. However, I did try the setup suggested by the other YouTube paddle reviewers (y'all are the real MVPs!). That is, I tried hesacore, tungsten tape at the bottom and handle. It ended up weighing 8.75 oz. While the sweet spot was much better for dinking and resets, I was just a tad too slow at the kitchen during speedups and hands battles.

After almost 3 months of testing, I found the optimal setup for me to thrive at all shot scenarios consistently.

1. I removed the hesacore (which took off 0.53 oz) and placed two bodhi grips (their teal color option perfectly matches the paddle accents). This equated to .2 oz weight.

2. I placed 4 inches of Selkirk tungsten tape on the 2-4 and 10-8 positions on the side of the paddle. This equated to a total of 0.1 oz weight spread over a larger area, which did wonders for me.

3. I wrapped the edge of the paddle with black electrical tape to add only an additional 0.1 oz.

The complete weight of the paddle with this setup weighs 8.25 oz. It is super quick and agile at the net along with the amazing power and pop you get out of the box. The sweet spot is just right to stay in dink battles.

Try it out and let me know what you think!

Personally I'm looking forward to the Pro Ultimate Hyper model that drops this week. It bakes in the feedback from players who hit with the Pro Ultimate elongated.

Hey Chase great review. What's your weight setup? I have an ultimate but I really feel the head heaviness to it. I currently have a hesacore grip and about 4 inch strips of 1g per inch lead tape around the throat area. Dude I feel like I'm swinging around a greatsword. Any tips?

Nice review man. I really hope other people don't get this paddle because I like being the only one on the court with the gearbox advantage.
