And Luke ended up being the catalyst to Anakin fulfilling his destiny as the Chosen One. Something that only Luke could’ve done and no one else. No matter how many Jedi were around post Order 66 and fought the Empire, there is absolutely no one who had a better chance than Luke in my personal opinion. Only he was capable of bringing Ani back to the light so he could destroy the Sith and bring balance.

I think the movies kinda made it clear that Obi-Wan Kenobi already thought so anyway. They didn't make Obi-Wan say it, but Obi-Wan wouldn't have trained Luke If he didn't believe that Luke was the chosen one.

In a way, both Luke and Anakin were the chosen ones. Luke was a physical means for Anakin to destroy the Sith, while Anakin let his love for his son mentally destroyed the Vader persona in him and also physically throwing the emperor into the reactor shaft of the second Death Star. Obi-Wan saw that Anakin had become Darth Vader. So he came to the obvious conclusion, Anakin couldn't be the Chosen One (anymore). But since he saw the Force in Luke, he put all hopes in Luke.

The reasoning is simple. Anakin failed by turning to the Dark Side. So Luke must be the chosen one. Little did he know that that was a path for Anakin to redeem himself and destroy the Sith. So the prophesy was right. Anakin was "The Chosen One"
