RIP Paul Ritter. From a hilarious tv dad to a serious tv deputy chief-engineer which makes me realize how much of a talent he was.

It actually kind of makes sense that Dyatlov wont even believe the photographic evidence. The Soviet Government was notorious for doctoring photos and he knows that they want a show trial. The sad thing is that he really is a bitter, irresponsible, destructive man, but because the justice system has no credibility, he feels he hasn't been presented with anything to feel guilty about.

If they ever make another Horrible bosses movie, give the role to this guy.

I see people asking in the comments how did he survived that amount of radiation.

Because he was in the toilet

This scene is very well done. Many are assuming Dyatlov is just being an ass. But he's right. He isn't talking because there is simply no point. He knows he's dead either way. If he doesn't talk he die, and if he talks the government will "give him the bullet" and allow their lies to silence the truth. He knows that something wrong was kept from them, but to express that opinion would prove to have terrible consequences

It’s so weird thinking about how this all happened relatively recently. Nuclear power is like a domesticated animal. It’s been tamed, but it can still bite.

The real A.S. Dyatlov wasn’t a violent bully… he was just a strict manager (there is a HUGE difference)
HBO needed a Hollywood style villain for the series so that is why Dyatlov was portrayed as a villain
In reality, he only blamed the design of the RBMK and its flaws, and respected the operators. The real Dyatlov never insulted Akimov and Toptunov in his interviews and always spoke highly of them as nuclear engineers
He believed the regime was to blame, and not the operators

Out of all the characters in the whole series Dyatlov was my favorite. Not because of his personality or the way he treated people, but because he was the only one who fully understood the system he lived under. It was a system where the truth was fabricated, reasons didn't matter and lies were currency. Why bother grappling with the truth or even wasting the time considering the evidence when the narrative is written before hand and the bullet is the ultimate equalizer!? This scene painfully encapsulates the futility that was the Soviet State. There's no point in asking questions. The answers never mattered anyway.

R.I.P Paul Ritter, you'll be missed.

Dyatlov was right about one thing: It wasn't _all_ his fault. The Soviet RBMK reactors had critical design flaws.

Surprising how he has the audacity to still have an attitude like that despite what he caused
