Thanks for the post, it worked on my iMac I'm selling! Also, tip to others, once you get to the Welcome screen (2:42), COMMAND + Q will shut the computer down. Then it will be ready for the new owner. :)

Hit the power button after the computer has been shut down> then hold command + R as soon as you turn the computer back on. That worked for me.

Five Hours? I used to do this in 20 minutes or less on much slower Macs using the install disks. Cloud installs are a convenience only if your have a fast connection or any connection which some do not.

User groups used to sell the latest version of the OS for a small fee and members would copy the floppies to be sold.

That said, I do find the updates for my iPhone and iPad to be fast and very convenient. Just click the proper button and wait a few minutes. If Apple is not charging for the OS X, the updates could be simplified to work like IOS and leave documents intact or the option to wipe them. My IOS apps update themselves without my having to run to a website and grab the updates and maybe someday OS X will offer this convenience.

When I was a consultant and faced with users with various os related problems, bad fonts, bad downloaded apps, etc. I would backup their documents and get updated files of their applications and then wipe the disk and install everything new and updated and then replace the documents. Often I would get adverse response to this but then my clients had fast, working computers and so did I.
