CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Parrish (Anthony Hopkins) encourages his hesitant daughter Susan (Claire Forlani) to be open to finding real love.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
The cycle of life on Earth hangs in the balance when Death becomes emotionally involved in this romantic fantasy. William Parrish (Anthony Hopkins) is a tremendously wealthy and powerful man who oversees a worldwide multi-media empire. Despite the loss of his wife, whom he dearly loved, William is content with his life, and he's very close to his two daughters, Allison (Marcia Gay Harden) and Susan (Claire Forlaini). One night, as William is fighting a hostile takeover of his company and Allison is planning an elaborate party to celebrate her dad's 65th birthday, William begins displaying the symptoms of a severe heart attack, and he is visited by a mysterious stranger, Joe Black (Brad Pitt). Joe is actually the angel of death, who has taken the form of a man who recently passed on to pay William a call. It seems that William is due to move on to the next world, but (no great surprise) he doesn't want to go. Joe, on the other hand, is curious to know what life is like for mere mortals, so the two men strike a deal -- William will have some time to get his affairs in order, and Joe will wait and see what it's like to be a human being. Joe decides that he likes it very much when he falls in love with Susan, but negotiating the slippery slopes of romance is no easier for Joe than for any ordinary man. Meet Joe Black is an updated version of Alberto Casella's play Death Takes a Holiday, which was adapted for the screen in 1934.

Every Father should have this talk with his daughter.

He is so right. My husband died of cancer last month and I am so lost. We had that passion and friendship that I will never have again. We loved each other thru our faults, our similarities and our history together. It hurts so much now that sometimes I don't think I can take another breath. I don't know how people get thru this...Please hug and kiss the person that loves you for the same reasons we loved each other because it does go by in a blink.

Lightning struck 33 years ago when I asked a lady WAY out of my league out and she felt the same way!! I wake up every morning like a kid on Christmas morning!!

At age 54, after numerous relationships and two marriages, two wonderful adult children, I finally was hit by lighting, and so was she. You have no idea what it's like, how wonderful it is until you find that person and fall head over heels for them. And when they feel the same, it's the most beautiful thing in the world. It's worth the wait...

One of the greatest sleeper films of all time. Such an original story and wonderful acting. The writing is magnificent and the movie has one of the best final scenes of all time. I'm a red blooded 47 year old American male and it brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. The pairing between Anthony and Brad is spot on and the movie has so many inspirational quotes you can imagine. I'm glad I have it on DVD because if it were VHS the tape would certainly be worn out by now by 10 fold. If you don't have this in your collection or seen it you MUST!

Love this line, "I want you to get swept away out there. I want you to levitate. I want you to sing with rapture and dance like dervish."

i sat and watched this film over and over, and knew i was in a doomed marriage, so we parted, and i wandered through life lonely and empty for nearly 2 years thinking "these things don't happen", and now I have found the person he speaks of, and she does each and everyone of these things and more to me, she is the most beautiful thing this earth has ever created, and for that, i am the luckiest guy alive.

"Find someone you can love like crazy, and who'll love you the same way back... Because the truth is, honey, there's no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love, well, you haven't lived a life at all."

but love is passion. Obsession. Someone you can't live without. I say fall head over heels. Find someone you can love like crazy, and who'll love you the same way back....

If you hesitate when someone asks you "Do you love him/her? and don't answer in a split second...you just answered the question...

I never get tired of this scene -- and lots of others in this sadly underrated masterpiece.

Mr. Hopkins lives in a deep spiritual world or authenticity. I admire his honest brave and open emotional world. He teaches us how to be real, how to be fearless. So glad there are people like him, I've been gifted to know. Life is an adventure if you're eyes are wide open with wonderment!
