Sometimes, it's good to go all out, and composer Thomas Newman turned in one of his most bombastic and beautiful pieces of music for the finale of this elegant and perfectly crafted film. It's over the top, but it's wonderful.

Starring Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, Claire Forlani, Jake Weber, Marcia Gay Harden and Jeffrey Tambor. Directed and Produced by Martin Brest, with stunning cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki. Original score by Thomas Newman.

1:19 this moment is the heart of the film. Death came for man and man isn’t ready to go. Now the man came for death, and Death isn’t ready to leave.

I love the moment at 3:55 when Bill turns away and is ready to go. It's Death that turns back for "one last look." A brillant moment, imo.

When this movie came out I was in my 20s and I didn’t really “get it”. Now I am staring at my 50s and a father of two, this hits every single beat of my heart in every way. Magnificent.

Death is sitting like an outsider away from the festivities. He sees the bright fireworks that are actually Bill's life shining at its brighest before death. Death finds it hard to accept that he has to leave this world, but Bill is ready to "let go". Death lives for the first and last time, so when he leaves with Bill they both essentially "die".

It’s sad that the world has changed so much, that we all live in a sadder world with no films like this to inspire you and entertain you, no other films have the words “ dance like a dervish” in them, I will always treasure this film in my heart !! A masterpiece!!

It’s ironic in a way. Death loves life and life hates death. The writing. The music. What a masterpiece.

Bill: "It's hard to let go isn't it?"
Joe: "Yes it is Bill"
Bill: "Well, that's life...what can I tell you"

Love the fact that it's Death that needs just one more glance back at life before departing.

I survived the widow maker heart attack and for some reason I’m still here. This movie means something different to me now from the first time I watched it. Life is beautiful, life is dangerous, and it’s gone in a instant. I don’t know what happens next but I know one thing for certain, when that time comes, all that you take with you is your memories. Love those you can, forgive when you can, and live life until you can’t.

All these years later, and I still choke up at this scene, the music, the writing, all of it. It is absolutely one of Brad Pitt's best movies, and dare I say Anthony Hopkins', too. They just don't make'em like this anymore, and it aged perfectly. One of my favorite movies ever.

The music, music. What can I say, that's life.

I survived the widow maker, lost my entire family, but still have gratitide and love for each day. The sunsets each day, make sure you embrace all that you did and received that day. Make sure the movie of your life is epic.
