History of Social Democracy

History means identity. On May 23, 1863, the General German Workers‘ Association, the predecessor of the Social Democratic Party, was founded in Leipzig. In 2013, social democracy celebrated the 150th anniversary of its party. What characterizes its history? What path will it follow in the 21st century?

The Academy for Social Democracy is a young consulting and educational project of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung which offers politically interested and committed people the opportunity to reaffirm the values, principles and goals their own political actions are based upon. Its symbol is a compass.
