How many reps are ideal?

The video isn't sponsored by the way. I realized after filming that it might seem that way. I just grabbed something off my table.

Three sets to failure is a good rule of thumb that can be used to accommodate most peoples' fitness goals.

Other set and rep ranges work, of course! In fact, the Hybrid Routine has both higher and lower ones for a variety of reasons.

To be clear though, those are GOAL standards. For example, you do 2-3 sets of Wall Pushups of as many as you can. After you're able to do 3 sets of 50 - move on!

However, I THINK most people watching this aren't on a regimented fitness plan and may be confused as to the different numbers they see.

Don't mind the peppermint tea?

Me, completely focused on the tea: "Is that Celestial Seasonings?!"

Remember guys, consistency is key. You can do one push-up every day and get stronger than most people as long as you don't stop. Cuz sometimes people will start working out and they'll be pumping out 100 push-ups in a week, maybe a day, but then they'll stop after like a month... But if you do one push-up every day for a year. 365 push-ups. That's only one year too, and only one push-up. If you can work yourself up to 5-10 pushups like 3-4 times a week, you'll be seeing results surprisingly fast. Now obviously it might take a month or two, but you'll see that even if you aren't changing in looks and you don't have abs or lower weight and fat, you'll still notice you can at least move up to the next level regarding whatever number of reps and whatnot you do. Quality over quantity too, it's ok if you can't even do 3 pushups. Work yourself up to it, and don't think knee push-ups are girly or silly, using perfect form every time but only doing one push-up is better than doing a million with crappy form. Make sure you eat and rest according to how you see fit and only how you think will improve you. Hampton has multiple stuff for people who can't even do a pushup so don't get discouraged. Stay safe, and have a good day 👍

I just have to say thank you. I have two chronic illness, one makes my tendons and ligaments more stretchy than they should be and provoques dislocations, and tendonitis. the other one causes me to be sensitive to pain and be in actual constant agonizing pain all day, every second. (fibromyalgia and hypermobility) Doctors always said that I should NOT DO ANYTHING SPORTY OR EVEN LOOK AT A GYM. But I really enjoyed lifting heavy stuff at work (in logistics) so I went to an occupational therapyst and she helped me understand I could do stuff just more carefully and avoiding certain movements, being concient of my body all times. why thanking you? because you encouraged me to go to the gym and next week I'm starting, so I can make my body stronger and my muscles be the support my tendons need to hold the joints in place and avoid subluxations. Thank you💙

I think all people should be encouraged to do partial reps.

Years ago I wasn't able to do even one pull-up or chin-up. I kept trying every day (without any form of assistance) even though I couldn't do it. After some time I was able to do one rep. Then two. Eventually I did nine.

Here's how you can go from 0 to 1 without any assistance: start in the low hanging position and keep trying to pull yourself up. You won't be able to do it, but your muscles will get stronger. You'll eventually be able to pull yourself to the middle position. So you keep trying until you can do a full rep. And then you keep doing a single rep and also add partial reps (just like in the beginning when you couldn't do any reps) until you can do two reps.

Adding partial reps to your training regimen gets you to your goal much faster. This is true for everyone, including experts. Partials are among the most underrated forms of training for a number of reasons.

I just got NASM certified and you're honestly teaching me more than that $1000 course did. You're going to make my eventual job so much better and easier than I was afraid it would be, so thank you.

I originally started out with just 1 set of reps at first but am recently plateauing so now I will add more sets.

Thank you for the advice and positivity.

I really like that you point out that sometimes we need to gain the weight, not just lose it. Even the few trainers I've worked with at my local gym all focus on losing fat and slimming the waist and they seem allergic to the idea of a woman wanting to *gain* muscle mass and become stronger, not just lose fat. Like bro look at me. Look. at me. I'm a noodle. I got no fat to cut, I'm under 100lbs, and you're telling me I need to focus on slimming? get out of here. That's with the people I've found at least, not saying it's universal all across the board, but it's frustrating nonetheless. Always nice to find guys like you that focus on what you need to *feel* better, not just look better.

I think that the best for me is a hybrid.
I don't want to miss my workout, so I have a hard bottom limit, for example, 30, which I know is quite easy for me, so when I do those 30, I stop counting and do extras if I want to and I'm feeling able to.
This really solved the problem with the hard numbers, because I know that I'm doing my goal and I'm doing extra something for myself, instead of trying to increase the limit every time.
I do adjust this lower limit, but quite rare, when I'm confident, that I'm already doing those additional exercises in the "extra" part.
For example, if my lower is 30 and I'm sure, that I'm doing around 15 to 20 extras, I'm okay to raise the lower limit to 40.

I've been doing it for 4 months right now and this changed my attitude to sport in general, I'm feeling progress, instead of emotional rollercoaster, when sometimes you can do 60 and sometimes you can't even reach 40 and you suffer from thoughts about lowering your goal.

Slow and steady progress really feels comfortable

I wish my personal fitness teacher in highschool had known this. First day, they had everyone do the exact same exercise, the same amount of times. I was sobbing by the end of it, while some people were just chilling out. Quit the class the next day, wasn't gonna put up with that crap. Put me off of intentional exercise for years, and now my neck is too messed up to do much. Public school gym class just shames unfit people, pushing them out of spaces that are meant to be helpful.
