Before I get started, I want to address the meaning of agnostic. Agnostic is a person who believes that nothing is or can be known about the existence of God or anything that exists outside of nature. People believe we should stick to the roots of the word, for example gnostic means having knowledge on whether or not a god exist. Having the a before gnostic means you lack the knowledge on whether or not a god exist. Some believe it can be used to say you neither have faith or disbelief in god, and others believe it can be used to imply a gradient between knowing a god exist and knowing a god doesn't exist. I'm one of the people who use agnostic as in, you lack knowledge of the existence of god and Gnostic means you do have knowledge. The same way theist means you believe in a god and atheist means you lack the belief in a god. Definitions change, meanings to a word are removed, or new meanings are added to a word due to multiple forces such as psychological and sociocultural. Agnostic has multiple definitions. Semantic change happens. I don't have a problem with people who identify as just agnostic. Definitions that are changed irrationally such as the definition of racism, I don't support. Prejudice plus power? We already have a word for racist social policies that exist in governmental organizations, schools, and courts of law. It's called institutional racism. There's no need to change the meaning of racism. Other than that, if the definition of a word change over time or more definitions are added within reason, I'm okay with. I prefer to use agnostic as in I lack the knowledge in whether or not god exist. Both sides have gotten too big for one to take over the other, so I believe we should share the word. I can easily tell what definition someone is referring to because of how they use the word agnostic, so that's no problem for me. So, why am I still an agnostic atheist? I believe the existence of a god is highly improbable. It would be dishonest of me to say there is no god. I don't know for sure. All gods that come from religions, are not real so I'm not referring to those. They have a clear origin. Humans made these gods up. There's no what if, or a maybe, all gods that come from religions were made up by us humans. These gods only exist as an intangible concept. A god from a religion can have influence on us humans because the concept of god is an idea. We humans are social beings, so ideas can influence us. Positively, negatively, or no affect at all. A god from a religion can only be real in that sense. There's no reason to believe a god from any religion exists physically in this world or has influence over it. I believe gods were created to explain this big and confusing world, relieve stress and grief, set rules and guidelines, and justify and give context to the behavior of humanity. We had limited knowledge at the time and we still do today but the gaps in our collective knowledge that a god can reside in, is getting smaller and smaller with each new discovery.
