It's been known that the MSI RX 5700 Mech OC has memory temperature issues. Here is the fix and why I still buy them over other RX 5700 and RX 5700XT models.

Thanks for sharing your info Son of a Tech. I received a 57.3 MHR for this card. It has a micron memory at 935 mem clockrate (1325 core) on this card. The xt bios for me didn't give me any improved hashrate so I just stuck with the non XT version. I replaced the pads with 2mm ones which reduced the temps from 104 to about 88 degrees with a room temp approx 28 Degrees C. It was so shocking how they were not completely covered. I didn't think adding 3mm thermal pads at the back changed much but I did it as well. Couldn't really tell much difference so I added some spacers so the heat sink could get a better hold on the card. Got me down to about 82 degrees. I then I kept the core clock at the same rate and reduced the controller voltage (VDCCI) to 760 (i still don't know how this impacts anything but I tried to make it as low as possible PLEASE SHARE IF YOU KNOW. I wanted to decrease the memory voltage (MVDD) as low as I could so I stuck it to 1250 mV to see what happens. Got stable down to 78 degrees. This was repeatable on the Sapphire Pulse. I had very little success with the samsung memory cards but the trade off is that they generally run cooler than the microns for the 5700s from my expereince. Hope this helps anybody who struggled through this like I did.

I am having this exact problem with MSI MECH OS 5700 XT. I used thermal pads however I realized mine were slightly less thick than the factory grey ones (stated 2mm but felt like 1.5mm on the ones I got from Amazon) that were poorly installed out of the box. I just added two layers of new thermal pads to all 8 GPUs memory CPUs however now my main GPU, CPU is running hot in almost each card. I ran out of thermal paste but I will re-open all of them and double up on the thermal paste and I expect/hope that will finally fix the problems. When I did run the rig all my memory temps were much lower with the two layers of thermal pads placed so adding the second layer fixed the memory temp problem but created a CPU overheat issue. Likely I created a larger gap from the CPU to the heatsink by adding extra thickness to the memory CPUs. I expect with a hefty load of thermal paste on the CPU I should get better CPU temps and hopefully finally fix this overheating issue. Liked and subscribed, thanks!

I replaced the pads on my Mech memory temps went from 106 to bouncing back between 96 and 98. Maybe I did it wrong?

Yes! I just removed my 5700 backplate and saw the thermal pads had actually been sliding out of position. I re-positioned them and my memory temps have now gone from throttling at 106 degrees down to a stable 88 degrees celsius. Stabilized my mining rig and increased my hash rate too. Much appreciated tip! Thumbs up.

2 mm pad? sounds thick! my one goes GPU 80c, memory 92, gpu vrm 79c and hot spot 102! That's is without overclocking and undervolting to 0.950v

Loving your content.. How is it **Anything** I want to know you have already covered it?! Awesome

So i had 106 degree tenps after replacing with the same thermal pads.. got it down to 90 by adding washers to the 4 mounting screws

Any idea what else I could do?

Is it okay, if i only overclock my fan to 50% and get 50-60degrees normal temp?

How is this still working with those extremely poor blue pads? I've bought those from amaz and they break down in a matter of hours and then temps ramp right back up and get worse.

Is 100c mem temperature really a caution? Or can it be used with having to change pads?

So this will fix the Junction temp issues as well?

I have a sapphire 5700 xt and it does not have the half thermal pad issue.. But I'm getting 96 on my max memory temps. My junction and hotspot and gpu temps are all low and good. Is 96 a damaging temp for memory? Am I hurting my card running it at 96?

what overclock settings did you use for this card?

Just bought an Sapphire RX5600XT.. i really did not expect to see those memory temps go 100-102°C!!! Now this can't be safe, or can it?

Hello man, my temperatures didnt decrease after thermal pads change for this variant can you please guide? do I have to do bios modding to reduce temps?

I've replaced the thermal pads on my 5700 with thermal grizzly minus 8 pads and the thermals got worse! I may need to just tighten the screws though. Of note the cooling plate doesn't cover all of the memory so I feel like this is a losing battle.

Just noticed what your starting temp was 102 though OUCH! Mine was around 88 at 100% fans.

Dropping knowledge and dropping temps. Oh yeah!

you can buy a thermal temperature gun and detecting that way wich its the card that its overheating

if the problem is the thermal pad placement why did you also changed the thermal paste?
