Let's talk about the Atomos Ninja V+ Monitor/Recorder. Is it worth getting for the R5? It's got a hefty price tag but, it completely eliminates the problem with overheating! But is $1,500 too much? Let's talk!

holy shit you just earned a subscribe from me. I've been suffering from huge impulsive GAS (Gear acquisition syndrome) ever since i got the r5 on my hands, been thinking about the V+, cages, gimbals, Cards, new laptop, UWA L lens, probably sell it for the r5c. But you just made me breathe a little bit easier. So yeah, i haven't had a demanding shoot that abused the r5's thermal threshold yet but hopefully this doesn't happen to me anytime soon. I think i'll stay with my barebones r5 setup for a year or two and focus on setting myself up a better Editing workflow instead.

Awesome video good points. I have almost the same PC build as you but I have the 2070 Super and it's working great with the R5.

I’m not interested on the ninja v+ at all, it’s enough what I can get from the body itself and the overheating never was a problem for me. Great video!

Did I hear correctly that you’re telling people not to buy the Ninja V+ but haven’t used it yourself? The most obvious advantage is the ability to record in ProRes Raw in addition to a larger and brighter screen, cheaper storage, better battery life and elimination of overheating. And most cameras can’t record internally at their highest quality settings

I have the R5C and the Ninja v + was on sale for $599. Now I'm thinking how I can use it to its fullest potential.

The V+ is way overpriced and not interesting right now unless you really need to shoot 8k long time. Better wait until the price comes down considerably.

I had never planned to buy a Ninja V but Atomos had a good sale during the holidays. I am hoping Atomos will do the same thing with the Ninja V+ this holiday season.

How does the export look like, when using Canon's 8K 12bit raw video as a source, compared to Prores Raw? And what settings do you use for exporting 8K video?

Best reason to go with the r5 + Ninja v+ — the ability to take ProRes right to the timeline in FinalCut and Premiere without transcoding. H.265 is choppy on the timeline without transcoding without a Mac with an M1.

what id like to know in considering buying it is when filming an all day shoot, how long does the battery last? i believe its the 'atomos power kit' would i need 2 or 3 or is 1 enough?

Do you recommend Ninja V+ for Sony A7S III?

Nikon Z9 does 8.3K 60p RAW internally with no overheating.

For some reason I’m not able to record internally simultaneously when I’m recording raw externally on the Ninja V. Am I doing something wrong?

The Ninja V+ is now $599... And the Ninja V is $399... Is it worth the extra $200 to get the V+ if I only shoot in 4K?

Considering how good 4k HQ & 8K internal RAW are on the R5, do you really need to upgrade? Another point is R5 only has micro-HDMI out, not a dealbreaker to everyone but there certainly is long-term durability issues isnt there?

*To be able to shoot unrestricted in 8K on the R5, then why wouldn't you purchase the Ninja V+ ?*
