I drive Uber. About 7000 rides in 15 months. 95% of rides are 1-2 people! Not 80/90. At least 95% are 1 or 2. 80-90% are one person rides.

We're living in an increasingly anti-merit world in which terrible "analysts" and "business journalists" get to continue in their jobs even though they're completely unqualified for the subjects they cover, continually get everything wrong, and don't understand a damn thing about where the world is going.

The "analysts" are forgetting that there doesn't need to be a seat for the driver in a driverless vehicle. In effect, this is equivalent to three seats in a traditional vehicle. Plus, it looks so sporty, I'd definitely get one just to have it.

Every Tesla could be a robotaxi.
The cybercab is the dedicated vehicle.

I agree with you. 'Experts' think it will replace taxis and don't see that it will replace millions of cars that only carry 1-2 people 90+% of the time.

The point is that the Tesla app will know how many people there are in a pickup and dispatch accordingly.

I rode the Waymo robots during San Francisco Fleet Week, at least a half dozen rides. The experience was amazing. Jumping off the street and into a private vehicle gives you a great and repeated sense of “relief”. It was soothing and efficient driving, and the initiation and termination of the ride was quick and easy. Great job Waymo. Can’t wait for a Tesla self driving experience.

I did about 2500 rides for Lyft and uber. And I can confirm in my own experience that 90 were 1-2 people. I hardly ever remember someone up front or 3 in back.

The experts were looking for a faster horse.

Ppl are missing that the addressable market is far larger than the current cab market. It’s actually larger than the current car market. This is bc more ppl will be able to take a cyber cab than can drive.

One thing that came to mind when you talked about those "experts" (morons) is a proverb from the game of Go that is "Greed for the win takes the win away" or also "Give your opponent what he wants", which translates to: it's an absurd idea that ONE company needs to provide ALL transportation solutions in every possible market to stay alive or even win the competition. Often times it's way more sensible to let others do their thing and not get trapped in the idea of taking everyone's lunch, because it could mean you're spreading yourself too thin in trying this. So strategically it makes sense to play to your own strengths and see the strengths of others, acknowledge them - and keep doing what you do best.

Ark Invest did this research years ago and has been saying it ever since - 90% of cab rides are with 2 or one person - as if we needed this to tell us what common sense could have. I couldn't blame the average person for thinking a 4 seater would be better. Still, when the "experts" on Wall Street openly ponder the wisdom of making the cybercab a two-seater, I think they are being disingenuous to the point where they are using it as a point to trash-talk Tesla. Any money manager handling Tesla that wonders why a two-seater has clearly not done any research on Tesla

In the UK, taxicabs have four seats. One for the driver and one for the driver's paperwork 😂. And two other seats for something or other.

In the end, even Waymo are two seats (ok, three) taxis. And no one of these so called “experts” ever complained that you can’t use the front row seats and therefore it is a complete failure. I wonder why?

If you want to transport more than 2 people, just use two or more cybercabs problem solved!

All your comments here are spot on. The cybercab is brilliant. I love the idea of colored plastic. Inexpensive and efficient. Tesla always changing the norm!

I drive Uber. 99% of my trips have 1 passenger

Plastic is definitely a good and viable choice - actually one of the first EV's (I think the first to be produced in more than 1000 'copies') was the Think City. This was a Norwegian-designed and -produced EV, and was made in molded, colored plastic. This made them very light, and extremely resistant to small bumps.

Thanks for getting back to your normal delivery; facts/speculation w/o lots of emotion and silliness. Keep it up! When you do you are the best!
