The Tesla Robotaxi is Confusing...

The Robotaxi event was a lot. These are my thoughts, plus a test ride and some extras.

“The goal is that you won’t need a manual override” yeah and the goal is that buildings don’t ever go up in flames, but architects and builders still have to put in emergency exits, sprinklers, etc.

A driverless vehicle with no manual overrides, no ability to open the doors in the event of an accident or loss of power, and any semblance of “emergency features” done through a screen… what could possibly go wrong?

It’s weird that a taxi with no steering wheel wouldn’t have 4 seat available. How is that supposed to be peak efficiency when most groups of people would have to take two of them?

This is quite literally my worst nightmare; to be trapped in an autonomous vehicle with no way to stop and no way to get out.

The cyber cab is so innovative we should link a bunch of them together and put them on rails to improve efficiency and safety. That would truly revolutionize travel

Drunk people jabbing away at a delicate-looking touch screen to open the doors. Genius! And if the screen fails presumably you have to kick out a window to exit the vehicle.

If you don't pay your fare + 50% tip. The Robotaxi won't open the door and will make you suffocate in it.

In Italy we already have e-vehicles that costs around 1€ per ride and you can do whatever you want (read, watch a movie, listen to music, play videogames etc) without driving.
