Neutralization Reaction | Acid Base Reaction | HCl + NaOH

Показать описание
Neutralization Reaction is a type of reaction which occurs when an acid is mixed with a base (both their effects are neutralized ,and hence 'Neutralization')
In an neutralization reaction the products formed are salt and water only, the salt formed may be acidic salt like in the case of NaHSO₄, (Sodium bisulfate / Sodium Hydrogen Sulphate ) it may be basic salt like NaHCO₃ (Sodium Bi-Carbonate / Baking Soda ) , or it may be neutral like NaCl (Sodium Chloride / Common Salt )
In our body we have (dilute)HCl acid present in our stomach to kill bacteria which could have entered along the food we eat , as the acid is still very strong (although being dilute )the cells lining the stomach produce a thick coating of mucus, that protects the gastric mucosa from acid and enzymes in the stomach.
When we say we are experiencing acidity the amount of HCl in our body increases which is the reason for burning sensation , to get rid of it we take antacid which is basic in nature / is a base, due to which a neutralization reaction happens in our stomach (only with excess acid) and relieves us of pain.
Both HCl and NaOH are strong acid and base respectively and find their application in many places apart from neutralization reaction.
HCl is used --
1. to extract gum from bone.
2. to clean iron before galvanising it
3. For the purification of Table Salt.
4. For the Production of Inorganic Compounds.
5. For cleaning pools, etc.
NaOH is used --
1. It is a major ingredient in drain and oven cleaners.
2. It is used in the manufacture of fabric, plastic wrap, paper and soap.
3. It is used in chemical manufacturing, oil refining, hydraulic fracturing, water treatment and metal processing.
